Only Canto this week because I will be in Arizona in like 12 hours.
2020 Decibel Magazine Tour details are starting to emerge! Leading the charge at next year’s tour are Mayhem and Abbath. Supporting acts will be announced next month, but this is off to a fun start. As it happens, Abbath at Decibel Mag was the first show I “professional” photographed. I was badddddddddd.
Yesterday I was in Boston and Tuesday I was working on a city council campaign (not my own). Tomorrow I’ll be on Martha’s Vineyard. Doin’ stuff!
When your favorite black metal band drops a new track, you always start there. That band would be Schammasch and that song would be “Rays Like Razors”. And more importantly, they announced their next album will be out on November 8th through Prosthetic Records. It will be called Hearts of No Light and you can pre-order it now. Credit card, please.
And then we have a live video from Abbath for “Hecate”. This song is really good. I should probably go back and listen to Outstrider in full at some point. Too bad I’m still busy blasting myself away with that Abbath-less Immortal record from last year…
Oh and finally, a new battle-y music video from Amon Amarth for “Shied Wall”. In all truthfulness, I still haven’t listened to their latest album, Berserker. But like with anything AA, I generally know what I’m going to get and I’m generally going to enjoy it. This is no different.
So, another Saturday is upon us and what are you doing with it? Outside maybe? Well, obviously not if you’re reading this and thank you, by the way, for that. Once you get done reading, take this playlist of tunes with you and get the heck outside. Or do something. I’m sure there’s a show playing local to you or a pool to get into or a creek to cool off in. You get the point, just do something but play this loud as hell whatever you’re doing. Yesterday was one hell of a release day and we’ve got a little of that here plus a whole lot more. You know the drill, hit the play button and let the rough side drag. That’s what the weekend is for.
Welcome back to another edition of Embracing the Descent. Miss us? Rhetorical question of course. It has been a minute so as a refresher or if it’s your first visit, we briefly discuss a handful of this week’s new releases that stood out for whatever reason and maybe, from time to time, a week behind. We won’t be hitting everything because a 40 – 60 entry piece ain’t happening and seriously, who’s got that kind of time. Head below to see what’s got our knickers in a bunch and don’t forget to check out the full listing from Monday’s Initial Descent. Continue reading →
We made it through another week. And, are now head first into the next. Reggie Jackson once said “A baseball swing is a very finely tuned instrument. It is repetition, and more repetition, then a little more after that.” This ain’t baseball but it is a crap ton more metal each week so let’s get some more of THAT repetition.
Both Abbath and Immortal Bird have new albums out this week and putting one over the other was tough, really tough. The former turns in a solid and grandiose rock star performance while the latter has truly come into their own…just get them both is my advice. Elsewhere, Hex offers up hard hitting death / doom and 3Teeth crank the gears of industrial metal with aplomb. Annnnd, we’re far from done. There’s so many albums you’ll want to pick up this week so go ahead and apologize to that last bit of dust in the ol’ wallet right now.Continue reading →
