It’s getting a bit ridiculous, listening to so many great releases so early in the year. I’ve already listened to four albums coming out in the next few weeks that could easily be an AOTY contender…and we haven’t even gotten out of the first month of 2022 yet. And I’m not even talking about the new Earthless record which came just came out – they were my AOTY back in 2018 and damn if Night Parade of One Hundred Demons isn’t currently kicking my ass as I write this, so why not have a preview kick off the 216th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist?
You know who else has a new album album that we never talk about on Nine Circles? Steve Vai. So let’s get one of his new tracks on here, too. And since I don’t want to hog too much of the spotlight (although I threw one of my favorite Opeth tracks in there, too) we’ll start with Anton who is rocking his shiny bald pate to the new Allegaeon as well as Dischordia. Josh has been enraptured with the new Zeal & Ardor (so say we all….jeez it’s phenomenal) but still finds some serious gutter time with Malefic Throne and some classic sludge from Eyehategod. Like me, Vincent is bemoaning the breakup of The Might Mighty Bosstones but manages to find some solace in new music from 40 Watt Sun and Boris, as well as some older music from Elliott and Mitski. Buke gets down in the dirt with Crowbar, Cathedral, and Nile while Ian both confuses and concerns me by injecting some Mac Miller and something called “Getcho Mans” before wrapping up with some Wilderun and Coheed and Cambria bringing Springfield back for “Jessie’s Girl 2”.
Oh, and maybe one more new track for Buke…be seeing you.
Heilung have announced a 2022 North American tour, running from late August through October 1st. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at this location, if you happen to be interested in that one. As an added perk, one tree will be planted for each ticket sold. I support things like that.
As you’ve learned by now, we always share Moon Tooth things, so here’s a video for “The Conduit”. They have a few shows coming up later this month before, what I assume will be, a busy 2022.
Arch Enemy are back with a new single and video, titled “House of Mirrors”, and that’s how we’ll close out the day. That’s the first new material we’ve heard from them in a minute, and it’s available for purchase here.
It’s raining again today. And yes, I am just fine with that.
Sepultura have announced the rescheduled dates for the Quadra tour (finally). The new dates are scheduled for March 4th through April 9th, with support in the form of Sacred Reich, Crowbar, and Art of Shock. Legit, this tour should be a ton of fun. Get your tickets here.
Let’s toss in another tour, yeah? This one features Frozen Soul and Sanguisugabogg, as well as Inoculation and Vomit Forth. Those dates are a little sooner, spanning October 27th through December 12th. Personally, I’m going to prioritize this one a bit more. Tickets go on sale Friday at this location.
Swedish progressive metal sounds fun, so we’ll close with the new video from Loch Vostok for “Enter the Resistance”. That track is taken from Opus Ferox – The Great Escape, which is officially out today apparently.
Today was a good day to be a Red Wings fan, just in case anyone was wondering (you weren’t).
Municipal Waste have tacked on some more dates to their 2021 tour plans. This latest batch of shows are with Crowbar (which is awesome), are the dates run from November 13th through the 23rd. Tickets go on sale this coming Friday.
Criminal has announced a new album, Sacrificio, which will be released on September 17th through Metal Blade Records. Check out the first single and video from that album, titled “Zona De Sacrificio”, right now.
The Melvins have announced a newly recorded, career-spanning acoustic collection titled Five Legged Dog. The collection will include 36 tracks, and it’s set for a October 15th release through Ipecac Recordings. It’s available for pre-order here, and you can check out “Night Goat” for a preview of what’s to come.
And we’ll close with the new video from death/thrash collective Toxic Ruin. Nightmare Eclipseis set for an August 27th release through M-Theory Audio, their debut through the label. The video for “Defiler” can be streamed immediately below. Enjoy.
Welcome back to another Saturday morning, metal maniacs. This week, we have NEW CARCASS AT LONG LAST NEW CARCASS, a ripping goth rock monster from Unto Others, more from the upcoming Unreqvited album, and much more. Drop out and tune in below.
