‘Tis the season for hopes and dreams (aka: new years resolutions) that fly by like memories on the hard drive of some tragic half human, half robot that’s been beat up and spit out over the course of too many attempts to recreate a life that once was. If you subscribe to this line of thinking, stick to it and see where it leads but don’t half-ass it. New metal? Yes, we got it and just in time after the big purge of eoy lists. What’s up this week? Let’s get this started with a very late December release that trips the filthy, nasty Swedeath trigger and while Feral isn’t reinventing the wheel on Flesh For Funerals Eternal they are keeping the stream everflowing. Vanha returns with an incredible sophomore effort on the mournfully dark Melancholiaand brutal death metallers Meathook break a long silence with the fetid gore of Crypts, Coffins, Corpses – yes, it sounds exactly as the title suggests.

As I write this I’ve got some furious death metal punching holes in my eardrums and some really freakin’ phenomenal bourbon coating my insides. So, a good Friday…wait, Saturday. I don’t know, it’s late or early – whatever. Anyway, Thanksgiving is closing in which, in the metal and music world in general, means EOY time. Enjoy your weekend, Happy Thanksgiving, and we will be seeing you here next week.

No matter, disregarding the curiosity that was Celestite and instead focusing on the recent re-release of Diadem of 12 Stars, I made the trip to Portland with plenty of excitement. It had been awhile since I last attended a black metal show, and what better way to break the slump than with the Weaver brothers? The evening certainly didn’t disappoint. Continue reading →
