CANTO: Aeviterne, KYOTY, Nekrogoblikon, and More

In case you weren’t aware, our 2021 year-end posts are still going strong! I’ll publish mine… eventually.

I like goblin metal, so we’ll lead off with the Nekrogoblikon news that emerged today. The Fundamental Slimes and Humours will be out on April 1st and can be pre-ordered here. Check out the new single, “This Is It”, right now.
New York experimental death metal collective Aeviterne are releasing their debut, The Ailing Facade, on March 18th through Profound Lore. Check out the new track, “Denature”, right now. From the accounts I’ve seen, it’s quite good.
Danish alternative metal crew NORÐ are releasing their debut, Machine Blood, on March 4th through Inverse Records. Give “Fear Reigns” a listen here, and pre-order that one through Bandcamp.
If you need some more traditional metal in your life tonight, here’s a new one from Maule, titled “Sword Woman”. That’s taken from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, which drops on the 14th through Gates of Hell Records.
We’re going to end the day on a high note. A personal, local favorite of mine, KYOTY, are releasing a new album titled Isolation on February 24th through Deafening Assembly. Check out the video for “Quarantine” below.

Traveler

In a year’s time, Canada’s Traveler have become a household name for heavy metal fans and are set to release their sophomore effort Termination Shock a month from now. Plainly put, it is yet another example of how necessary traditional heavy metal is in today’s terms. We all need a reason to jump, cheer, and throw the horns right now and this band, and new album, is reason for all this. The band’s self titled debut was a tour-de-force last year and this one eclipses it by a mile with better instrumentation, better songwriting and deeper references realized that us old heads hold so dear and that new fans will be over the moon for. Initial Descent: December 11 – 17, 2016

Yep, here we are amongst best of 2016 list season and in true form these final weeks are looking to be list busters. But hey, on the bright side we have tons of great new metal just in time for the hectic shopping and traffic season. So, strap on a pair of headphones, get out there and brave it. Sweden’s black metallers Murg return with their second full length Gudatall which is as heavy on black metal aggression as it is on suffocating atmosphere, Grafvitnir offers scathing and utterly evil black metal on Obeisance to a Witch Moon, Call of the Void continue their amalgam of death, grind, punk and sludge metal on AYFKM (guess what that stands for), Black Cilice gives us yet another cold and blistering black metal release for the week on Nocturnal Mysticism, and Youdash bend time as well as all constraints of typical death metal thought patterns on their strikingly good debut Astrophobia.
