I feel like sludge is in something of a renaissance right now. Between mainstreamers like Mastodon and Baroness to critical darlings like Inter Arma, Intronaut and almost anything Aaron Turner is involved in, sludge has arguably never been closer to the forefront of new and exciting metal as it is now. I feel like a large part of that is the trend of embracing the atmosphere and crushing heaviness that are the pillars of sludge and driving them both to their extremes. Quiet day everywhere except in my mind.
- It seems as though Every Time I Die has teased about half a minute of new music. If anyone has managed to form an opinion off of those brief seconds, the floor is all yours!
- Not the most surprising thing, but Rocklahoma 2020 has been canceled. The event, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, made the announcement yesterday. Five Finger Death Punch, Slipknot, and Staind were the planned headliners.
- Lesser Glow have a new album dropping on May 29th through Pelagic Records called Nullity. A track titled “The Great Imitator” is streaming now, and a pre-order link is available for you to take advantage of.
- We’ll close with a new music video from …and Oceans for the track “Five of Swords”. Their next album, Cosmic World Mother, drops on May 8th through Season of Mist.
