CANTO: Tombs, Epica, Calyces, and More

My tape collection is growing at a rapid rate, a trend I did not anticipated this time last year.

For those that like keeping up with all things Epica, they revealed a new vlog entry today. This episode, titled “From Alpha to Omega”, is the 15th installment and falls just a few days before the release date of Ωmega. That album is officially out Friday through Nuclear Blast.
Remember that lineup announcement from Scardust last week? If so, you probably remember the hints of an upcoming live performance. Well, we have those details to share today. It will be a live streamed event, titled “Breaking The Ice”, and it’s scheduled for March 8th.
Greek prog metal band Calyces dropped a new in-studio session, “Live at Studio U217”. The tracks performed in that clip are all taken from Impulse to Soar, which you can check out here.
Tombs dropped a new music video for “Secrets of the Black Sun”, and that sounds like the perfect way to wrap up the day. Of course, that one is taken from 2020’s Under Sullen Skies, an awesome album start to finish, available through Season of Mist.

I’m finally listening to some new stuff off the latest Harakiri For The Sky. It’s fun.

Looks like Abbath has jumped back into the studio to record the third album under his name. It sounds like it should be out sometime later this year, only two years removed from 2019’s Outstrider. I rather enjoyed the previous two efforts, so this is good news to me.
Serving as a preview for their upcoming new album, Etemen Ænka, Dvne has released a live video for “Towers”. The album, if you need a reminder, drops on March 19th through Metal Blade Records.
Scardust, the progressive/symphonic metal group out of Israel, have announced some lineup changes. Here is the kick-off announcement, but if you scroll their Facebook page you’ll get the full rundown. Sounds like their first live performance together will be announced soon as well. Good stuff.
And we’ll close with some black metal. Kankar, out of Germany, revealed the second track from their upcoming new album. Give “Dunkle Millenia” a listen below, the title-track from their newest effort, which is set for a March 19th release through Eisenwald.

At least the Champions League matches have been entertaining today.

TesseracT have released details for P O R T A L S, a live cinematic experience. That event will take place on December 12th, and will include some pre-show activities as well. You can scoop up a ticket here.
Boris and Merzbow have come together for 2R0I2P0, a collaborative album scheduled for a December 11th release through Relapse Records. Check out this cover of “Boris” right now.
Empyrium have announced a new album, Über den Sternen, which is set for a February 26th release through Prophecy. Check out the title-track from that album right now.
Finally, a new video from Scardust for “Break The Ice”. Strangers is out now on M-Theory Audio.

Time for a beer. Not this beer. A different beer.

Pangaea have signed on to a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records. The progressive metal band based out of Wisconsin are planning to start the writing process for their third full-length sometime later this year.
So this is kinda random, kinda fun, and an overall good thing. Korpiklaani are releasing a branded beard oil, funds of which will support SYLVA, an organization that supports children fighting cancer.
I’m going to use this space to also encourage everyone to check out the latest from Wayfarer, A Romance With Violence, which is available in full a day early over on Metal Injection.
