CANTO: Northless, Inexorum, Horizon Ignited, and More

Decent chance this is my last post this week, thanks to some wedding travel. The good news is that there are plenty of notable updates today.

  • To start, the progressive sludge crew known as Northless have signed on with Translation Loss Records, and have announced their new album. A Path Beyond Grief will be released on July 22nd, and you can check out the title track over at Brooklyn Vegan now.
  • From there, we’ll jump over to Season of Mist to check out the new track from Stoned Jesus. This one is titled “Porcelain”, the title track from the sludge rock trio’s new album, with a release date still pending.
  • And then over at Prosthetic, Yatra shared a new single and visualizer for “Reign of Terror”. Check it out over at Distorted Sound. That’s the third single taken from Born into Chaos, which is set for a June 10th release.
  • Collectively, we think pretty highly of Inexorum, so we should probably include that as well. “Memoriae Sacrum” can be streamed over at Metal Injection. As a reminder, Equinox Vigil is out on June 17th through Gilead Media.
  • Finally, we’ll close with Horizon Ignited. Below is the new video for “Beyond Your Reach”, the latest single taken from Towards The Dying Lands. That album drops on July 1st through Nuclear Blast.

CANTO: Saor, Cave In, Yatra, and More

Coming at you late tonight, but still coming at you because there is a ton of shit going on.

  • We’ll lead things off with new material from Saor, one of my personal favorites. The new album, Origins, will be out on June 24th through Season of Mist. Check out the video for the title-track here.
  • We’ll jump to a tour next. Avatar have announced a July headlining tour, with Light The Torch and Otep. That kicks off on July 6th in Toronto and ends the 31st in Tucson. Tickets are available here.
  • Oh look, GWAR released a new single. “Mother Fucking Liar” can be streamed here. That’s taken from The New Dark Ages, which drops on June 3rd. As a reminder, they’re on tour in May and June with Goatwhore, The Native Howl, and Nekrogoblikon.
  • Yatra also unveiled a new track today, titled “Death Cantation”, over at Decibel. That’s taken from Born into Chaos, which is slated for a June 10th release through Prosthetic.
  • Finally, from Cave In, the clip for “Blood Spiller” is below. That’s the latest track taken from Heavy Pendulum. As a reminder, that is out on May 20th through Relapse Records, and I cannot wait to get that one in the mail.

CANTO: Cloak, Yatra, Misanthur, and More

Tour announcements all over the place today!

  • Starting with Cloak who are touring the U.S. with Demiser this coming October and November. I know one Nine Circler that’s going to be PSYCHED about this one. Well, two. Throw me in that bucket. Tickets can be acquired here. Both of these bands rule, so go do that.
  • And then we have Heavy Temple, another band I enjoy immensely. This is a shorter run of shows, but they have some U.S. dates in August and early September. They’ll be supporting their new album, Lupi Amoris, which dropped back in June through Magnetic Eye Records.
  • Yatra have signed on with Prosthetic Records, and are currently in the studio working on their label debut and follow-up to 2020’s All Is Lost. They also have a run of dates lined up in August and September, a few of which are with High Reeper… which kicks ass.
  • Combichrist has announced the second leg of their fall tour dates, with King 810, Davey Suicide, and Modern Mimes. Those dates kick off October 18th in Seattle, and runs through November 6th in Akron. The first leg of that tour starts September 19th, so lots of Combichrist this coming fall.
  • Polish black metal crew Misanthur have set October 15th as the release date of Ephemeris. Their debut will be out through Season of Mist Underground Activists, and you can check out the first single taken from that album below, titled “Black Clouds & No Silver Linings”.

Album Review: YATRA — “All is Lost”

After successful tours in the US and Europe, as well as festival appearances with additional national and international shows scheduled, everything came to a sudden stop for doom/heavy metal sensation YATRA with the global pandemic.  That is when Dana Helmuth, founding member of the band, sat down and began writing All is Lost, their third and latest release.  While the general lyrical theme of the album is rather dark and heavy, artistically reflecting the band’s dismay with the current ways of the world, the album is very lively and energetic with intriguing vocal and musical variety.

CANTO: Buildings, Behemoth, Yatra, and More

Behemoth 2018

New week, new me. Ok, that isn’t even remotely true. Metal news!

  • Buildings have announced some east coast tour dates with Bummer. Those dates run in February and March. There isn’t a date all that close to me unfortunately, but this is going to be a super fun tour for those that have the chance to check it out.
  • Yatra are lining up the release of their second album on January 31st. It will be called Blood of the Night and will be released through STB Records. You can stream a new track, titled “Blood Will Flow”, right now.
  • For those previously unaware, Volbeat and Clutch have some upcoming U.S. arena dates in April and May, and The Picturebooks will be in support. This should be a good time.
  • New music videos from Behemoth are always worth sharing. This one is for “Rom 5:8”. I haven’t watched it yet, but knowing the effort the Polish legends put into their video productions, I’m sure it’s as gloriously theatrical as always.
