CANTO: Pessimist, Artillery, Horndal, and More

I feel moderately accomplished today. That doesn’t suck.

  • Musk Ox, a project I haven’t mentioned in what seems like forever, will be releasing their third full-length album on July 9th. Inheritance will be an independent release, and pre-order details are coming soon. For what it’s worth, I’m really excited about this.
  • Horndal are celebrating the release of their sophomore album, Lake Drinker, with a live streamed event via Bandcamp. It’s scheduled for April 18th, and tickets are only $3.00, with all proceeds going to the town’s local non-profit to look after an old factory park.
  • Pessimist have announced new vinyl pressings of their first three albums, Cult of the Initiated, Blood for the Gods, and Slaughtering the Faithful, available through Season of Mist. Those release dates are May 14th, June 11th, and July 16th, respectively. Check out this trailer for the reissues, and get your pre-order fix here.
  • The May 7th release date for X, the latest album from thrash metallers Artillery, is growing closer. So we’ll wrap up the day with their new single and video for “Turn Up the Rage”. That one is out through Metal Blade Records, and can be pre-ordered here.

CANTO: Wristmeetrazor, Artillery, Born of Osiris, and More

Fun fact: ciders aged in rye barrels are delicious.

  • Psychonaut and SÂVER have teamed up for a new split LP, titled Emerald. It will be out officially on May 14th through Pelagic Records, however pre-orders for what will be a highly sought-after album don’t start until April 6th.
  • Wristmeetrazor also dropped announced a new album announcement. Theirs is scheduled for a June 11th release through Prosthetic Records, and it will be titled Replica of a Strange Love. They released the first track from that album today, “Last Tango in Paris”, which you can check out at that same link.
  • Ok, only one more album announcement today. I promise. (No I don’t.) The latest from Artillery, simply titled X, will be out on May 7th through Metal Blade Records. I know this may come as a shock, but it’s their tenth full-length album. Check out the new single, “In Thrash We Trust”, right now.
  • Born of Osiris released a new single today, and that sounds like something good to close with. Check out the video for “White Nile”, available through Sumerian Records, immediately below.

CANTO: Lacuna Coil, Devathorn, Inferno, Artillery, and More

Friday’s Friday.

  • Lacuna Coil are authors now! They have released their first book (of…?) and it’s called Nothing Stands In Our Way. It’s a celebration of their 20th anniversary as a band, which makes me feel old. Go buy it if you’re into reading and stuff.
  •  In case you want some gossip for the evening, Bad Omens has pulled out of a Sense Fail tour. The reason, you ask? The size of their logo on the poster… (note: there’s much more to this I’m sure,  but that’s the headline that caught my attention, so you get it too).
  • Things I like: Devathorn and Inferno. Things I like even more: learning those two forces are combining in the form of a split titled Zos Vel Thagirion. It will be out on December 11th via W.T.C. Productions. Here’s a trailer.
  • How about a new video from Artillery? This one is for “Pain”, which will be featured on the November 16th release of The Face Of Fear (out on Metal Blade). Look at it!

Initial Descent: March 25, 2016

God-DAMN, what a new release Friday we’ve got today. Even if all we had dropping today was the new Cobalt, it’d still have been a hell of a day. In case it wasn’t clear, that’s your reminder to pick up the band’s long-awaited third album, Slow Forever. It’s an absolute triumph, and a surefire album-of-the-year contender. (Yes, it’s March. Not comfortable dropping “AOTY” bombs this early? Let’s give it a more timely nickname: how about “No. 1 Overall Seed”? #Madness)

But in fact, Cobalt’s not the only thing dropping today. Not by a long shot. We’ve also got Krighsu, the new record from Spanish brutal/tech deathsters Wormed (WORMED), and new stuff from Rotten Sound and…sigh…Amon Amarth, among others. Like I said, it’s a big day. So let’s not waste any more time; here’s what’s on tap for Friday, March 25:
