Baltimore, MD’s Exist have a deep lineage across the metal spectrum and with some of the most heralded bands in history. So it should come as no surprise they’ve made a splash since their mid 2000s debut or that they’ve shared tours with many elite bands. Their first two albums were an encyclopedia of how progressive metal is done and now with their third, Egoiista, ready to roll they, yet again, hold a masterclass in how to stay atop this crowded genre and dive deeper into their own mechanics to make this junior effort their best yet. As I hit the “Publish” button on this post, it’s a little less than three weeks since Maryland Deathfest wrapped up its 15th edition down in Baltimore. I’d like to tell you that the delay’s been down to me “just processing it all” or “trying to find the right words” or some shit, but let’s be real, I’ve just been busy with other things. The guys are back from MDF 2016 and ready to recap all of their shenanigans on this special Maryland Deathcast! To do that, they walk through all four days of the festival and highlight their favorite sets (including Dragged Into Sunlight, Horrendous, Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin and more), then share some field recordings they gathered with Corey’s fancy new mic on Sunday. Plus, as always, a Heaven and Hell portion.
All that and…not all that much more in Episode 44, but check it out anyway!
Episode 34 — or “Episode Whatever,” as we call it in the episode — comes to you live, with both hosts, plus co-host emeritus Kevin Davis, in the same room! And as you might expect, they didn’t really stick to a strict agenda. It’s a special, banter-filled episode that occasionally touches on Rotting Christ, Magrudergrind, and the city of Baltimore!

Hello from Baltimore! We’re coming to you live from our rest-day during Maryland Deathfest weekend here in the city that thinks it’s the greatest in the country. If you’re following us on Facebook and Twitter, you’re likely already aware of the technical difficulties we encountered in recording and uploading our MDF “pre-cap” yesterday morning, but fortunately we got our proper recap off late last night without a hitch. (Thanks for not shitting the bed this time, Google Hangouts!)
Give it a watch and get our thoughts on everyone from Mgla to At the Gates in what was a jam-packed day of metal at the Edison Lot!
