While The Metal Tour of the Year may have technically reached its conclusion a couple of weeks ago, and festival season is now upon us, there is no doubt that the dust is still settling in the aftermath of this massive event. Featuring the legendary Megadeth as headliners, this run of shows also included household names in Lamb of God, Trivium, and In Flames. Four of the most recognizable names in the metal world each bringing a different corner of the genre’s spectrum to this tour. Considering all we had missed since early 2020, this experience went a long way to welcoming back larger scale live music, and as a result will resonate many years into the future.

CANTO: Isolation Festival, Steve Von Till, Megadeth, and More
It appears to be a slow news day. Or am I just being lazy?
- Century Media has announced the inaugural Isolation Festival, featuring Insomnium, Voivod, Borknagar, and many more. This event will take place a week from today. If you can devote a handful of hours to watching a bunch of awesome bands play from the comfort of your own home, you should.
- The next album from Steve Von Till has been given an August 7th release through Neurot Recordings. The album will be titled No Wilderness Deep Enough and you can hear the first track from that record now, which is called “Dreams of Trees”. I already pre-ordered it, did you?
- Looks like some vocals are being laid down by Dave for the next Megadeth record. I’m gonna go off a hunch here and say the new record is near completion, which is exciting. Fun fact: I ordered a Megadeth puzzle and mask last week and can’t wait for it to get here.
- And we’ll close with some tasty new stuff from Arcaine. Here is the video for “Void”, taken from the album As Life Decays, which dropped back in February. Enjoy.

CANTO: Faith No More, Necropsy, Dave Mustaine, and More
Tomorrow I should find out if I’m going to Germany next year.
- Necropsy have released the first single, “Butcherado”, from an upcoming 4-song EP titled Exitus. If you want some death metal on a Tuesday night, I wouldn’t blame you. Have at it.
- When I see updates from Dave Mustaine, I tend to stop all things and see what the latest is. Well, fortunately, I have another positive update to share. Here is the full interview, but the main thing to take away is that he had continued responding well to treatment. And that crazy amount of support is cool to see, as well.
- Sorry, did you want some kind of follow up to that Faith No More hint from yesterday? Here you go. They return in 2020, to the tune of some festivals across the pond. Fret not, I’m sure there is more on the horizon as well.
- In case you were interested in seeing Ozzy Osbourne perform with Post Malone, here you go. This is from his show in Inglewood on November 21st.

CANTO: Wilderun, Obscura, Children of Bodom, and More
Better day today. Because soccer is still on after I got home.
- Let’s begin with the unveiling of the third single from Wilderun’s upcoming new album, Veil of Imagination. The song is called “O Resolution!” and you can follow this link to Consequence of Sound to check it out. Full reminder, that album drops on Friday (11/1).
- In follow up to the news from Dave Mustaine yesterday, it was also announced that he is going to be selling a ton of gear. If you’re a Megadeth fan, and want to add an absolutely killer piece of gear to your collection, this might be your chance.
- A couple things out of the Nuclear Blast camp. The first comes by way of Obscura, who have signed on with the label and have announced a 2020 headlining tour in Europe with support from God Dethroned, Thulcandra, and Fractal Universe.
- Children of Bodom dropped a new animated music video for “Hexed”, the title-track from their most recent album, out now via Nuclear Blast. Check out the video below.

CANTO: Batushka, Alcest, Moloken, and More
I got home from Detroit at 1:00 AM this morning… and turned around and left for Boston at 4:30 also this morning. Tired! Sad!
- Let’s start with the obvious stuff. The Metal Blade version of Batushka (see also: “Faketushka” or “Bartushka”) has canceled seemingly all international tour plans. The reason stated is the ongoing litigation regarding the band name, but the reason not stated is probably ticket sales and fans not falling for any of the drama. I was actually planning on shooting this show. Oh well.
- How about some good news? (I say that and am very much aware many consider the above also good news.) Dave Mustaine appears to have completed his throat cancer treatments. There is still very much a recovery process, but it seems like the outlook for both Dave, and Megadeth, are positive, and we can hope for a new album sometime next year.
- Updates from Moloken are things I like. The Swedes are taking their unique blend of black/doom/death metals to The Sign Records roster, and are preparing for a new album release on January 31st called Unveilance of Dark Matter.
- Alcest released Spiritual Instinct last Friday, and having listened to it a few times to this point, I can say with confidence that it’s a great album. If you want to learn a little bit more about the lyrical themes and artistic direction, check out this trailer they dropped today.
