This feels like the least Friday Friday ever, even though it’s a long weekend. Oh well. What’s happening out there today?

Progressive sludge duo Netherlands unveiled a video for the title-track from their new album today. Give “Severance” a watch and listen here. That album is out on March 31 through Svart Records.
First of a couple Century Media mentions today. Frozen Soul are dropping Glacial Domination on May 19, and today they shared a NSFW video for “Morbid Effigy”. Give it a watch here. That track features John Gallagher of Dying Fetus, which is pretty dope.
I’ve rather enjoyed the latest from HYPNO5E, so let’s give the video for “Slow Steams of Darkness” a watch next. That’s taken from Sheol, which is out next Friday through Pelagic Records.
Predatory Void revealed details for their debut album. Seven Keys to the Discomfort of Being is out on April 21 through Century Media. Check out the video for “Endless Return to the Kingdom of Sleep” below.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 270 (2.11.2023)

Sometimes it takes something simple like, say…bullshitting with your friends over (virtual) drinks about a record to reignite your passion for something. Since starting these Album RAMBLES I’ve been listening to more metal than I have in ages, and In Flames in particular, so since I’m still so hot on new album Forgone we’re gonna bookend the 270th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist with the two parts of the title track.

But that’s not all (it never is, is it?): we’ve got some classic All Out War and Turbonegro (we don’t talk enough about Turbonegro) and then the walls come down with new cuts from Dawn of Ouroboros, Wallowing, Dying Fetus, Distant, Torn in Half, Insomnium, Stormo, Blaze of Sorrow, some old and cold Sacramentum, and more. We’ve also sprinkled in some lighter fare with cuts from Elliot Smith, Channing Wilson and midwife to give your nerves a small break.

CANTO: Dying Fetus, Conan, Memoriam, and More

The temperature hasn’t been above 0° F since last night, and it’s currently a balmy -18° F (real feel -36° F).

Doom metal legends Conan have lined up some May dates here in the United States, and they’ll be supported by Thra. Here are the all the details you’ll need.
We’re fans of the latest from Memoriam around these parts, so to celebrate the release of Rise To Power, here’s the new lyric video for the title-track. That album is out through Reaper Entertainment.
Heavy metal veterans Alcatrazz are releasing Take No Prisoners on May 19 through Silver Lining Music, and today they unveiled a new single titled “Don’t Get Mad… Get Even”. Check out the video for that here.
Los Angeles primitive death metallers Kommand are releasing Death Age through 20 Buck Spin on March 31. Check out “Chimera Soldiers” on Bandcamp, and then spend lots of money. Because it’s Bandcamp Friday.
Dying Fetus are going to see us into the weekend. Below is the music video for “Unbridled Fury”. They also have some tour dates in Europe this month, with another handful in North America come April.

CANTO: Nite, Dying Fetus, Ingested, and More

I actually feel like I accomplished something today… weird for a Monday.

Couple tours to highlight today. First we have Dying Fetus and Suicide Silence co-headlining a tour with support from Born of Osiris, Aborted, Sanguisugabogg, and more. Those dates run from April 7 through April 30, and tickets go on sale this coming Friday,
And then Nite announced a tour that had me really excited at first… until I realized it was a hilariously termed California world tour that only includes four dates in February. They’ll be supported by Persekutor. I am extremely jealous of anyone that can make one of these dates. Nite rules.
The last tour that emerged today will feature Ingested, supported by Devourment, Extermination Dismemberment, and Organectomy. Those dates start May 4th in Brooklyn, and wrap up a month later in Cambridge. That lineup is going to be bonkers. Tickets can be found at this link.
We’ll move forward with some German sludge. Obelyskkh revealed the video for the title-track from their new album over at The Obelisk. The Ultimate Grace Of God is out on January 27 through Exile On Mainstream Records.
Finally, a new video from Sanhedrin for “Scythian Women” can be found below. That track is taken from Lights On, which dropped last March through Metal Blade.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 217 (2.5.2022)

If you grew up listening to metal in the 80s, you know just how important the name Johnny Zazula was. If I found a cassette put out by Megaforce Records or otherwise had Johnny Z’s name associated with it, I was buying it. He was a giant in the field of thrash metal, and losing him at the age of 69 is a crying shame. So yeah, we’re kicking off the 2017th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist with a bunch of stuff associated with him. Throw one back for a titan of the genre.

The rest of the crew is all over the map, so let’s get to it. Anton brings the heavy and the new with Absent in Body, Wait, and The Last of Lucy. Ian hits with Celeste who I’ve really been digging lately, and throws in some Warning and Stormkeep to keep it moving. Josh threw me into a timewarp listening to the great first album by Tora Tora, but quickly amps the heavy up with Corpsegrinder, Extinction A.D. and Centinex (oh, and some DMX which is as heavy as anything else on this playlist). Vincent reliably brings The Mountain Goats and adds in some Elle and Cremation Lily. Angela keeps the new train moving with the new single from Messa, the latest from Rolo Tomassi and some Microwave while Buke – perhaps sensing my bringing in enough of the old school – goes decidedly modern and heavy with Dying Fetus, Ihsahn, Arcturus, and Diabolical Masquerade.
