Pianos Become the Teeth are a band that has had their career marked by changes in sound, both great and more subtle. Beginning their days combining post-rock and screamo (Maryland’s answer to envy, as I liked to think about them), the band eventually went from shrinking the post-rock influences in their music to dropping their screamed vocals entirely on 2014’s Keep You, confidently taking on a new role as a modern alt-rock band. Now, their fifth full-length release, Drift showcases the subtler shifts the band has taken over the course of their musical journey.

CANTO: Converge, Der Weg einer Freiheit, Dark Funeral, and More
Last one of the week, before I head out for a long weekend. Also in the mountains, but different mountains. Kind of.
- We’ll lead off with Converge, who unveiled the second single from Bloodmoon: I, titled “Coil”, which is streaming over at Decibel. As a reminder, that collaborative new album is set for a November 19th release through Epitaph Records (with vinyl coming next June through Deathwish).
- Dark Funeral has announced a new album, their first since 2016’s Where Shadows Forever Reign. Slated for a March 18th release, We Are The Apocalypse will be out through Century Media. In addition, they also have a release show lined up on the 19th with Samael and Eleine, which is pretty awesome.
- Prosthetic Records added a new grindcore collective to it’s roster in Elder Devil. To accompany the news, the band shared a full set performed in Chinatown, with the audio available on November 5th for free (NYP, of course).
- Redemptor, the Polish death metal crew featuring current and former members of Decapitated, Vader, Hate, Banisher, etc., are dropping a new album, Agonia, on December 3rd through Selfmadegod Records. Check out a new track, “Potion Of The Skies”, right now.
- We’re going to close today with Der Weg einer Freiheit, because of course we are. If I wasn’t already anticipating Noktvrn enough, this new track featuring The Devil’s Trade, titled “Immortal”, just took things a step further. It’s an absolute masterpiece. As a reminder, that album is out on November 19th through Season of Mist.

CANTO: Der Weg einer Freiheit, Converge, Swallow the Sun, and More
Today has been a suboptimal day for my allergies.
- If it wasn’t already obvious, I’m really excited about the new Der Weg einer Freiheit album. So we’ll start with this immersive VR video for “Monument”. Noktvrn is set for a November 19th release through Season of Mist.
- And then we’ll hop over to Converge, who have announced a new collaborative album, Bloodmoon: 1. That project will feature the likes of Chelsea Wolfe, Ben Chisholm, and Stephen Brodsky, which is awesome. That’s also a November 19th release, through Epitaph Records. Check out the lead track, “Blood Moon”, right here.
- Swallow the Sun have announced a U.S. tour scheduled for this coming November and December. Support will be in the form of Abigail Williams and Wilderun, but unfortunately there are no dates near me. That said, this is an awesome bill and you should all go.
- Extinction A.D. have signed on with Unique Leader, and have announced a new EP titled Chaos, Collusion, Carnage & Propaganda. That will be out on November 5th, and you can stream “Chaos” immediately below.

CANTO: My Dying Bride, Thy Art Is Murder, Falling In Reverse, and More
Better late than never.
- My Dying Bride dropped a new trailer (the third of the series) for The Ghost Of Orion, which is out on March 6th through Nuclear Blast. In this clip, Aaron and Andrew get into the name and artwork of the album.
- Thy Art Is Murder announce new drummer Jesse Beahler through this playthrough for “Human Target”. They have a North American tour kicking off in just a few weeks.
- I’m gonna just use this moment to remind everyone that the first metal album ever dropped 50 years ago today. Yes, Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut is a half-century old. If it’s taken you until now to listen to it today, here ya go.
- Here’s a new video from Falling In Reverse for “The Drug In Me Is Reimagined”. They’re on tour throughout North America now through basically the end of May, so if you want to catch them live, you’ll have plenty of chances.

CANTO: Ozzy Osbourne, Exmortus, Falling In Reverse, and More
I had to skip Canto yesterday to set up my new, and slightly less mediocre, sound system. Priorities!
- Lacuna Coil and Apocalyptica are hitting North America next year. Those dates are in May and they cover a whole lot of places so odds are they will be in a city near you. Looks like tickets just on sale as well.
- Could this be 13 seconds of new Ozzy Osbourne music? Um, yeah, probably. Either way, this is exciting! And I’m sure we will get a whole new song in the very near future… like Friday maybe! I love speculating.
- Exmortus had an unfortunate accident in Canada after hitting a patch of ice. The van and trailer are totaled and the current tour is on hold. Super bummer. These guys are awesome. Help them out and whatnot.
- How about another tour because I see it sitting in our inbox? Red Death are hitting the road with Enforced. Those are also North American dates, but a whole lot earlier in 2020. Like, January.
- Falling In Reverse released a new video today for “Popular Monster”. Check it out below. Their most recent album, Coming Home, is available on Epitaph Records.
