We’re back with another edition of your favorite screamo column, Chaos is Me, later than I’d like this time but that’s what happens when you lose both your router and modem at the same time and have to live in the pre-internet age for a few days. Fortunately, all is returned to normal, which is good, because this month we have some very heavy hitters to cover in this column, including an album I’ve been anticipating for literal years. See how things stack up under the cut.
What’s happening friends. Currently I am attempting to recover from the Los Angeles leg of the Decibel Magazine tour, a night of gargantuan death metal performances from acts both new and well-established. Blood Incantation ripped through the entire 20 minutes of their “Vitrification of Blood pts. 1 and 2” and, if my ears did not deceive me, closed their set with a brand new song, proving beyond doubt why they are my favorite death metal band going right now. Necrot got the circle pits going and put on a hell of a show, including beseeching the crowd to help them summon ‘the motherfuckin’ devil.’ Morbid Angel are nothing short of the godfathers of death metal, and one of my favorite acts in the genre, so to finally be able to see them was a real treat for me. Finally Cannibal Corpse closed out the night in fine form, with replacement guitarist Erik Rutan shredding in fine form. Quality evening with a quality soundtrack, but I’m dead on my feet today. So here’s hoping our little mix tape provides the kind of quality soundtrack to whatever evening you’ll be having.

Welcome to the glorious end of another week. This is especially nice for me, as I’m staring a nice three-day weekend in the face at the moment, which is gonna give me plenty of time to catch up on all the new releases I’ve been slacking on getting to (I did check out the Coltsblood and Un split today and boy howdy was that some good doom). You can catch me holed up in my bed with my tablet and Spotify for 72 uninterrupted hours as the greater Los Angeles area slowly succumbs to the relentless sheets of rain we’ve been having for the last two weeks. Good morning ladies, fellas, and the people that don’t give a fuck. We’re going to keep this short and sweet today because once again I am behind on time, somehow. Even though my work week got cut short (thank you massive server error), it only meant I had to spend my free time doing all the important errands I had been putting off. But now there’s breakfast, coffee, my car doesn’t make quite as many weird sounds as it used to, and of course there’s good music to get me pumped on yet another rainy Southern California day. Lets hope this gets your weekend off to a good start too.
