The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 258 (11.19.2022)

I love the phrase “cold comfort”. Taken in its intended meaning, the world may be falling apart, but at least the music’s been good, right? But I also find that with the cold weather comes the deep desire to drown in a wash of the nostalgic, the lived in, the…well, comfortable. So we’re kicking off the 258th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist with the remaster of “Total Eclipse”, rightfully put back in the track listing for Iron Maiden‘s seminal 1982 album, now packaged with the incredible Beast Over Hammersmith live album.

From there we move onto more extreme corners, kicking things off with new Candlemass before going full on throat ripping with Sanguisugabogg, Ribspreader, Psionic Madness, Turbid North, Spider God, and new Nothingness. There are small breaks with classics from Against Me! and Refused before diving back into the filth with Cloud Rat, Wormrot, Falls of Rauros, The Otolith, new Gaupa and a lot more.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

Best of 2021: Buke and David Stepanavicius of Atræ Bilis share their favorites and more!

Best of 2021

David Stepanavicius of Atræ Bilis is no stranger to the podcast as he and Buke discussed Apexapien at length back in November and it was such an electric discussion that Buke reached back out to have David on again to discuss all things Best of 2021. The two catch up a bit since last time then launch into their biggest disappointments of 2021, their Honorable Mentions, and their collective Top 10. They also discuss Best of lists in general and how an artist / band views list season, how music usually finds David and how much labels play a part in it, whether Chris Barnes or memes are better, upcoming things for Atræ Bilis, and so much more. You’ll definitely want to keep a pen and paper handy as they cover a ton of great albums, forty in total. No surprise here at all, this is an excellent discussion!

Salty is fast becoming my summer word. But, honestly, I’m extremely grateful for all the killer metal released so far that has aided and abetted my quest to find the nastiest, angriest, speediest, best bourbon guzzling music around that helps chase the bullshit away. So, there’s the bright side. This week’s new release list is yet another example of a good freaking week as we’ve got death metal from both Fulci and Tombstoner and one of those has a synthy horror B side dedicated to an absolute legend of horror fame (guess which one), extreme black metal from Craven Idol, and sludgy-charred-hardcore from Erdve. But, as always, there’s a ton more hanging out below these top four. Get some.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 183 (05.29.2021)

playlist - mixtape

Welcome to this week’s Nine Circles Saturday morning mixtape playlist. This week, we’ve got the much requested (seriously like four people picked this one) new single from Zeal and Ardor, some classic Necrophagist, and a usual barrage of death metal from our esteemed Editor in Chief. Take a listen below and kick that (hopefully for most of you) long weekend off.

CANTO: Goatwhore, Fulci, Wÿntër Ärvń, and More

Pretty aggressive Rammstein playlist going on over here.

  • Goatwhore is the latest to announce an exclusive livestream event. Theirs will take place on January 9th, at 6:00 PM right coast time, and tickets can be purchased at this location. Looks like there will be some giveaways during the event, which is also pretty cool.
  • If you’re looking for something to supplement the season, keep an eye out for the latest from Wÿntër Ärvń, Abysses. The latest effort from the neofolk project, inspired by early black metal, drops on March 1st through Antiq.
  • Oh look, one more livestream to mention. This one will be a free show performed by Italian death metal crew Fulci. That takes place this coming Saturday, the 27th, and you’ll be able to catch it on either YouTube or Instagram.
  • And we’ll close with a new video from Rage In My Eyes for “Winter Dream”, a track taken off of Ice Cell, a 2019 release. Check it out below.

“Ein Bier… bitte.”
