As I watched my child, and many others, perform earlier this week in a talent show many thoughts were racing through my head and none of which you care about. But, these kids were putting themselves out there much like our metal brothers and sisters do each week with new material. And even on light release weeks, there’s never a shortage of opportunities to find your own star or stars. With that said, let’s jump in: Apathy Noir offer up their fourth full length of progressive death / doom on Black Soil, Stygian Obsession burst onto the death metal scene with their outstanding debut Form Is Void and more ridiculously good and crunchy death metal is in store on Order of Torment from Genocide Pact. Best of 2015: Zak Carter of Castle Freak

As part of our ‘Best of 2015’ series that will continue over the next two weeks, we will also be featuring the top albums of a number bands and musicians within the genre we love so dearly. So, without further delay, allow us to kick things off with Castle Freak, the death metal/grindcore group out of Philadelphia.
