Concert Review: Yob, Voivod, and Amenra, 4.3.2019

yobtourdec18

You may recall my absolute mess of thoughts and words from three weeks ago, where I talked about a couple shows I attended at the end of March. Well, we’ve finally reached the second phase of my 2019 concert review installment thingy. (I skipped the first shows I went to for some reason.) Based on the headline above, you might think this little piece only discusses one evening of metal. But oh how wrong you would be. Well, actually only a little wrong. You see, not only was I fortunate enough to attend the Yob, Voivod, and Amenra show at the Royale on the 3rd, but I also had the opportunity to checkout the Portland date of this tour at Geno’s the night before. Let’s talk about those two nights, yeah?

Concert Review: Evoken and Churchburn, 3.30.2019 (and Elizabeth Colour Wheel, 3.23.2019)

evoken churchburn

It has been an absolutely insane first quarter of 2019, specifically the last month or so, and I’m only just sitting down to revisit the half dozen or so shows I photographed the first week of April. It’s also been a minute since I actually put pen to paper (finger to keyboard?) and shared written words about any show, so stay with me while I dust off the cobwebs a bit. The absolute sprint that has been the past month really started with the Elizabeth Colour Wheel show on March 23rd, and the subsequent battle with food poisoning that made a video shoot the next day VERY awkward… but that’s a story for another day. Instead, let’s focus these specific words on the incredibly massive Evoken show at Geno’s the following week — a New England exclusive performance, if you couldn’t tell from the poster. Shall we? Concert Review: Bell Witch and Primitive Man, 11.3.2017 and 11.11.2017

Primitive Man - Bell Witch 2017

Both Josh and I were lucky enough to catch the massive Bell Witch/Primitive Man shows in our respective areas. Since these two shows fell in rather quick succession, we decided to combine our thoughts into a single post. These performances undoubtedly left an impact on us both, so let’s get into it, shall we? Concert Review: Pilgrim and Heavy Temple, 3/11/2017

pilgrim

Disclosure: there were actually four bands on this particular bill. After a bit of a delay in getting into the venue, I missed most of Manic Abraxas. And since I had a drive ahead of me and was traveling with a party of people that were on varying levels of intoxication, I missed the headlining Hessian. So it goes. Regardless, this was a tremendously fun evening, and both Heavy Temple and Pilgrim were a big part of the reason why. Continue reading
