Goatwhore started out, at least for me, as the band you wanted to hear but couldn’t get your hands on any material. That was then. And now with their eighth full length Angels Hung From The Arches of Heaven these dudes are a household name in any house that lifts up damn good metal. Call it blackened thrash or thrash and death with a splash of black metal or whatever you want to call it, bottom line is this band rules and that’s all there is to it. Ahead of the new album, which rips the door to hell wide open, Buke got the chance to chat with guitarist and part vocalist Sammy Duet about the new album and how it came to be as well as the Goatwhore ethos and how it plays into metal in general. But, they don’t stop there, a ton is covered beyond that, rest assured. We now bring you this conversation in its entirety so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy.

Temple of Void’s Alex Awn on new album “Summoning the Slayer,” and much more!

Temple of Void

They say “third time’s the charm” but we here at Nine Circles believe for Temple of Void, the fourth time’s the charm on Summoning the Slayer. The band is death doom at its core and has been extremely good at it since forming in 2013, but for Summoning… they bring out the ghosts of heavy metal, worship at the altar of the almighty riff, and truly find their calling in the world of extreme sounds. Buke recently sat down with guitarist Alex Awn to discuss the new album and how it came to be, they also discussed album art, working with the highly esteemed Arthur Rizk, the untimely passing of Trevor Strnad, playing Warhammer, and tons more. We now bring you this conversation in its entirety so grab your beverage of choice, a seat, and enjoy.

Atræ Bilis’ David Stepanavicius on new album “Apexapien,” deep dive into extreme metal, preferred way of listening to music, desert island albums, and much more!

Vancouver’s Atræ Bilis made quite the splash with last year’s EP Divinihility and nearly overnight made them a household name in any house that heralds death metal. A quick year later here we are with their debut full length Apexapien and they prove the success of that EP was no joke. From start to finish, this album is an absolute beast with teeth big enough to tear the planet in two. It hits hard as a ton of bricks but is amazingly smart in its construction. Not clinging to any one leg of death metal it blazes its own path forward with Albert Einstein level riffs and chest crushing blows around every corner.  It goes without saying, this album is a favorite for us here at Nine Circles and for good reason. With that said, jump in for an excellent chat with David Stepanavicius via The Nine Circles Audio Thing.

Monolord’s Thomas Jäger on new album “Your Time To Shine,” readying for an upcoming tour, thoughts on the afterlife, being a music teacher, and much more!

Monolord

Your Time To Shine is Monolord‘s fifth full length release since exploding onto the doom metal scene back in 2014 with their excellent debut Empress Rising. To say their rise in this genre has been anything other than meteoric would be an atrocity, and even including ‘rise’ in that statement is misleading since their debut captured fans from across the globe and landed on many best of lists. Their sound has become the new standard in doom metal for anyone looking for something outside the ‘paint by numbers’ formula that’s been around for so long. And, with every album since, their star shines ever brighter. Your Time To Shine continues this tradition and further cements their legacy in doom metal. With that said, jump in for an excellent chat with Thomas Jäger via The Nine Circles Audio Thing.
