Lunar Shadow
Lunar Shadow

By the time this goes to press, I’ll be having my morning coffee sitting on the sand and near the waves for the first time since last year. Needless to say, I’ll be in my happy place and will be enjoying every second of it. Luckily, I will have brought along some of this week’s new metal which will, of course, only enhance the week ahead. A trio of heavy metallers get this edition of new releases under way; one that leans towards the goth side: Lunar Shadow, one that leans towards the fantasy side: Gygax, and one that leans towards the thrash side: Kryptos, and all of which kick some major heavy metal ass. Which leads us to the last top slot with newcomers Murk Rider who weave long, epic and twisting black metal tales to add the just the right amount of darkness to my current playlist.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 84 (6.15.2019)

playlist - mixtape

Beware the Ides of June.  That’s how that phrase goes right?  Yeah, don’t bother looking it up, I nailed it.  It’s hard to believe that in just two weeks this year will officially be half over.  We’ve been treated to so much good music the last six months, and there’s plenty more coming down the pipeline.  As always, we here at good old 9C have compiled some of the best of those for you in our weekly mixtape playlist alongside the other good stuff we’ve been jamming.  Take a look below and see what suits you.

Circle Pit: Albums We Missed, Q1 2017

purgatory

And like that, a quarter of the year has gone…

I swear it feels like the amount of music released increases exponentially year to year. What’s even more surprising is how much of it is actually pretty damn good. Metal had a great showing in 2016 and judging by the first few months it looks like 2017 has the potential to be even bigger. I’m sure it’s obvious, but as much as we want to cover everything in a timely fashion… well, we are but a few humble writers in a veritable ocean of albums, and the waves are only getting bigger. You can see the quandary, no?

NO? WHADDYA MEAN, NO?!

Well, for the sake of our sanity humor me, please. The Nine Circles staff are scaling Mount Purgatory in this new take on a circle pit to bring you a few albums we missed in the hopes you don’t do the same. There’s something here for everyone so tag along as we begin our ascent. Breathe the rarified air, take it all in, it’s worth it.

Trust us.
