CANTO: Obsequiae, Overkill, Machine Head, and More

Life is chaos, so these may not come around as frequently as they used to.

  • I was psyched to see this emerge today. Check out this multi-camera video of the Obsequiae Fire In The Mountains set. If you look closely enough, you may see some of 9C’s own in the audience and/or photo pit. I personally haven’t looked close enough to confirm or deny.
  • New Jersey progressive outfit East of the Wall are releasing their sixth full-length, A Natural Second, on June 30 through Translation Loss Records. Give “Detonator Gauntlet” a listen over at Decibel.
  • Machine Head announced some upcoming U.S. dates. Public tickets sales for their Electric Happy Hour (Live) tour go on sale this coming Friday. Those links, along with the schedule and any other details you may need, can be found here.
  • Thrash legends Overkill are releasing Scorched on April 14 through Nuclear Blast, and today they unveiled a visualizer for the second single from that collection. Give “Wicked Place” a listen, and watch, right here.
  • Helloween are returning to North America for a handful of dates in May and June, and they’ll be joined by special guest HammerFall. Tickets are on sale now at this location.
  • It’s time for me to move on with my evening, so we’ll wrap up with the latest from Sortilège. Check out the new music video for “Vampire” below. Their recently released new album, Apocalypso, is available through Season of Mist.

CANTO: Mercyful Fate, Machine Head, Wolves in the Throne Room, and More

Wolves In the Throne Room

And now the countdown to Berlin is really on.

  • How do we not start with the Mercyful Fate tour? Their first North American headlining tour in over two decades kicks off on October 25th, running through November 16th. Support will be in the form of Kreator and Midnight. General tickets go sale this coming Friday, so don’t screw this up (he says mostly to himself).
  • The second notable tour to emerge today comes from Machine Head. Those dates cover most of November and December, and those tickets also go on sale Friday. There are some pretty cool VIP ticket options, if that’s your thing.
  • Switching to something a little more symphonic, we have the latest from Hexed. The Swedish metallers unveiled a new video for “Stigma Diaboli”, a fresh track taken from Pagans Rising. That album drops on September 30th through ViciSolum Productions.
  • Footage from the Wolves in the Throne Room set at Fire In The Mountains 2022 emerged, and it is incredible. Behold “I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rock and Roots” in all its glory immediately below.

CANTO: Machine Head, Saor, Manticore, and More

I almost forgot it’s Saor release week! That’s a very good thing!

  • Speaking of which, Origins was premiered in full today. I had a break in between meetings and was able to check it out. It’s awesome. Can’t wait to get my hands on the vinyl.
  • Looks like we’ve got new Devin Townsend coming! Lightwork will be out through Inside Out Music on October 28th. Pre-order details coming soon, but for now you can check out this tour trailer which offers some sneak peaks.
  • Manticore have set July 15th as the international release date of Endless Scourge of Torment, which will be out through Hells Headbangers. Check out the recently released “Empty Eyes, Hollow Temples” here.
  • I Prevail have announced a massive two-leg tour with Pierce The Veil, Fit For A King, and others this coming September through November. Get the full scoop here.
  • To close out the day with anything other than the new Machine Head track wouldn’t be right, so the video for “Unhalløwed” is immediately below. As a reminder, Øf Kingdøm and Crøwn is out on August 26th via Nuclear Blast Records and Imperium Recordings.

CANTO: Pain, Enslaved, Weedeater, and More

Scrambling to get this done because why the hell not?

  • So everyone needs to spend a lot of money on Bandcamp next week. There’s a Juneteenth fundraiser next Friday, the 18th, where 100% of Bandcamp shares are going to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Do it. Do it. Do it. I already have plenty lined up… obviously.
  • Weedeater have announced a U.S. tour this coming August. Support will be in the form of Joe Buck Yourself and Adam Faucett, and the party starts August 20th in Ashville. Tickets can be accessed at this link.
  • There’s no such thing as too much Enslaved, so here’s a new live video for “Sacred Horse”. That footage is taken from the recent cinematic tour, and you can pre-order that bundle if you haven’t already, out through Nuclear Blast. I forgot the exact date.
  • Machine Head greeted us with a new 3-track digital single today, Arrows In Words From The Sky, and you stream some of that here. That is also brought to us by Nuclear Blast.
  • And we should certainly wrap things up with the new Pain music video for “Party In My Head”, which is a vibe I can 100% fuck with. No word on new Hypocrisy things, but I do like me some Peter Tägtgren activity all the same. That’s also on the various streaming platforms.
