The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 220 (2.26.2022)

playlist - mixtape

Say goodbye, February. I wish I could say goodbye to the panic, the anxiety, and the fear as well, but tyrants are gonna tyrant, I guess. At least there’s music to keep us from falling over the brink, so let’s just jump into the 220th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist, and do what we can to stay informed, stay sane, and make what small differences we can to make this planet better for everyone.

I’m framing the playlist out with some Scatterbrain, because that describes my mental state at the moment and quite frankly it’s the music I needed to lighten the mood up. Anton brings in Ernia, Mass Worship, and Playgrounded. Josh mixes it up with Analepsy, Atoll, Black Flag and some vintage Dokken, among others. Vincent continues falling for Mitski and toe, but also rages with Worm and the new Falls of Rauros. Angela features the latest from Messa, Celeste, and Trna as well as a banger from Oathbreaker. And Buke? Buke goes with the latest from Spirit Adrift and Evil Invaders, but then hits the wayback button for some Candlemass, Dark Angel, Mercyful Fate, and Megadeth.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

Chris

Initial Descent: January 30 – February 5, 2022

It is not today as I write this so maybe your team got in the Super Bowl, and maybe not. If so, I’m sure you’re still celebrating and if not, or maybe you just don’t care, welcome to another list of new metal. Glad you stopped by as we’ve got new stuff from Thorn who made my best of 2021 list with their genius take on death metal, straight forward and lacerating metal from Venom Prison and Mass Worship, another death metal album from Golgothan who I’ve seen some positive feedback on as of late, and of course a few more bangers in the list that follows. You know what to do from here…get in there and get some.

CANTO: Trivium, Hypocrisy, Bonded, and More

Hypocrisy

After having not been in Boston for almost two years, I guess I’ll be there the next two days?

  • Trivium have announced a couple of upcoming livestream shows, which will be performed from their new HQ, “The Hangar”. In Waves is set for December 11th, with Deadmen & Dragons set for the following week. Tickets are available here.
  • As if Worship wasn’t an awesome enough record, the latest effort from Hypocrisy became the first metal album in space. The event took place as part of a special listening experience at the album’s release last Friday. Give it a watch here if you’re curious.
  • Want some more Ghost Bath content? Here’s a drum playthrough for “For It Is a Veil”, which, of course, is a track taken from Self Loather. That album dropped on October 29th through Nuclear Blast.
  • Mass Worship are dropping a new album, Portal Tombs, on February 4th through Century Media, and today they shared a new track from that album. Give “Revel In Fear” a listen (and watch) right here.
  • And we’ll close with some German thrash, in the form of Bonded. They just released a new video for “Watch (While The World Burns”), a track taken from Into Blackness. That album dropped back on November 12th, also through Century Media.

“Ein Bier… bitte.”
