CANTO: The Ocean, Cattle Decapitation, Necrot, and More

I was going to skip this today, but there’s too much awesome stuff happening.

CANTO: Baroness, Immortal Bird, Archspire, and More

Lantlos - Wildhund

After skipping yesterday, I’ll do my best to catch up today. No I won’t.

  • I should at least include the new Baroness tour announcement, which will be a by-request tour throughout the United States. You can vote for your 10 favorite songs (out of a list of 80) with the purchase of a ticket. They go on sale Friday at this location. Well, not that exact location, but you know what I mean.
  • Immortal Bird has a brief run of shows coming up with Witching in parts of the right coast in late November and early December. If you happen to be in one of the five cities they hit on they trip, you need to make this happen.
  • Mortiferum has a new album dropping on November 5th through Profound Lore, titled Preserved In Torment, and today they unveiled a new track from that record. Give “Exhumed From Mortal Spheres” a listen.
  • And then we’ll wrap up the day (and maybe week) with a couple new videos. First we have Archspire, who shared a new video for “Drone Corpse Aviator”. That, of course, is taken from Bleed the Future, which is out on October 29th through Season of Mist.
  • We’ll close with Lantlos. The clip below is for “LOWBREATHHIFEELLOWLIFEHIHOPES”, which I definitely just copied and pasted. It’s from the limited edition of Wildhund, which is available through Prophecy Productions.

CANTO: Mortiferum, Spirit Adrift, Venues, and More

So let’s recap. I skipped the news round-up yesterday because… life, and I’m drafting it before I’ve even finished my coffee today because I’ll be on the road all afternoon. Fun times, indeed.

  • We’ll start with Mortiferum. Their sophomore release will be titled Preserved In Torment, and it is set for a November 5th release through Profound Lore. A few of us at the site are really excited about this news. Check out the first single, “Eternal Procession, right now.
  • Atreyu dropped a remix of “Warrior”, which features Travis Barker and Zero 9:36. As a reminder, their newest album, Baptize, is out now through Spinefarm.
  • For those somehow unaware, Spirit Adrift released Forge Your Future today, their predictably incredible new EP. That’s out through Century Media, and to celebrate, let’s check out the new lyric video for “Invisible Enemy”.
  • German modern metal collective Venues also have a new album out today. Solace is out through Arising Empire, and you can check out the new video for “Deceptive Faces” right now.
  • It’s been a minute since we’ve checked in on DragonForce, so let’s close out the week with the new video from them for “Troopers of the Stars”, taken from 2019’s Extreme Power Metal. Quite the vibe these dudes are throwing out these days.

Initial Descent: October 6 – 12, 2019

Devils, Witches, Ghouls, Freaks, and Sinners it’s our time. October is the month where the freak flags fly, inhibitions are at their most transparent, and the most wicked, vile imaginations are out in full force. Take a step back and breathe in that crisp fall air whilst knowing that Devil’s Night is drawing nigh. Oh yea, all that and a bag of chips. New metal. We got it. You need it. GO…

Pacific Northwest death/doom dealers Mortiferum axe their way onto the scene with a dank ass debut that reaches into the chest cavity, grabs the beating heart, and eats it slowly, very slowly. Then, neatly cleans up and moves on to the next victim. Next, on yet another debut, Australia’s Carcinoid vomits forth a hellishly tortured landscape of putrid death metal nasty enough to make its own blood drenched horror movie. Moving on, extreme metal scene veterans Sammath return with their sixth full length of blackened death/war metal and it’s a smorgasbord of insanity just waiting for a victim. Last up top is Blut Aus Nord, whom I’m sure you’ve heard that their latest full length of otherworldly progressive black metal was leaked by some two-bit-asshole so they decided to unleash the digital and yes, you already know it rules. But now, the physical edition is upon us and woe be unto the souls that miss out. Just sayin’. Top four down, much more to come. FEAST… Continue reading
