CANTO: Tanith, After The Burial, Obituary, and More

obituary band 2023

Not gonna lie to ya, today was another weird one. Let’s get this over with…

  • After The Burial dropped their first music in a few years, so that’s as good of a place to start as any. The new double single, Embrace The Infinity, was released through Sumerian Records. Check out the clip for “Nothing Gold” here, and stream the two tracks here.
  • Obituary announced the “Barely-A-Live-Stream”, set to take place on April 22 and 23. They’ll be performing some classics from their discography on the 22nd, and then Dying of Everything in full the following day. This all falls before their headlining tour that kicks off on April 28.
  • In other tour news, Necrofier announced some dates in the Western United States, with Midnight and Early Moods. Those dates are in June, and you can see the full schedule here.
  • Sci-fi metallers Curse Of Cain shared a visualizer for “Hurt”, a track taken from their self-titled album. That one is set for a May 12 release through Atomic Fire.
  • New York City’s Tanith are releasing Voyage on April 21 through Metal Blade, and today they dropped a new video for “Olympus by Dawn”. That, my friends, is how I’m going to close out my productivity for the day. Drink time.

CANTO: Abrams, Necrofier, The Wraith, and More

Super late canto because sometimes life be like that.

  • TRVE Brewing’s 11th anniversary event is officially set for June 24 at the Gothic Theatre in Englewood, Colorado. The lineup features Godflesh, Sumerlands, Stormkeep, and more. If I lived out that way… you know I would be there. Anyway, here’s your ticket link (they go on sale Friday).
  • Abrams have announced a run of shows out West with BleakHeart, which covers a good chunk of May. They’ll be promoting their latest release, In The Dark, which is available through Small Stone Recordings.
  • Texan black metallers Necrofier announced a new album, Burning Shadows in the Southern Night, which will be out on June 2 through Season of Mist Underground Activists. Check out the vicious new single, “Burnt by the Sacred Flame”, here.
  • Jesus Piece released “Silver Lining”, the latest from …So Unknown. Give it a listen here. That album is slated for an April 14 release through Century Media.
  • Closing out, we have Nine Circles favorite The Wraith. They’re back with their new vocalist Harley Mace, and a video for “Overthrown” can be seen below. You can also snag it through Bandcamp. That’s taken from Ghost March, which we’ll look out for later this year.

CANTO: Wolves in the Throne Room, Obscura, Omnium Gatherum, and More

Wolves In the Throne Room

Apparently there’s a lot going on today?

  • So let’s start with Wolves in the Throne Room, who have announced an early 2022 North American tour with Uada and Full of Hell. Those dates run in January and February, starting and ending in the Pacific Northwest. Tickets go on sale this coming Friday.
  • And then we have a few new tracks and/or videos to share. The first of which comes from Obscura. This is the third single taken from A Valediction, titled “Devoured Usurper”. As a reminder, that album drops on November 19th through Nuclear Blast.
  • Extreme metal collective Apes have signed on Translation Loss Records, and have announced a new EP titled Lullabies For Eternal Sleep. In conjunction, they also gave us this vicious new music video for “Cornwall”, the opening track from said EP.
  • And then we have another one from Season of Mist Underground Activists. Necrofier dropped a new video for “Betrayal of the Queen”, which is taken from their debut full-album, titled Prophecies of Eternal Darkness. That drops on October 22nd.
  • And last but certainly not least, we’ll wrap up with Omnium Gatherum, one of our longtime favorites. The video for “Reckoning” can be found below. That’s another new one off of Origin, which is out on November 5th through Century Media.

CANTO: Rivers of Nihil, Mehenet, Necrofier, and More

Holy crap I am tired. Today was gnarly.

  • Rivers of Nihil unveiled new album details today. The Work, their fourth full-length, will be out on September 24th through Metal Blade Records. You can get a preview of what’s to come with the new single titled “Clean”, right now.
  • New album news also came from Mehenet today. The black metal project featuring members of Thou have lined up September 10th as the release date for Ng’ambu, their sophomore effort (I think). That will be out through Gilead Media.
  • Starset have announced a pretty substantial run of U.S. dates later this year, which run from November 3rd through December 18th. Tickets go on sale this Friday at this location.
  • This is a last second add-in, as the news just surfaced, but I’m sorry to share the passing of Joey Jordison. There’s no doubt that the founding member of Slipknot was an absolute legend, and will be missed dearly. You can read a statement from his family here.
  • The last new album announcement of the day comes from Necrofier, who are releasing Prophecies of Eternal Darkness, their debut full-length, on October 22nd through Season of Mist. A video for the first single, “The Black Flame Burns”, is available below.
