Okay, so I cheated a little bit with this one. October Falls are not what anyone in their right mind would classify as “non-metal” but they are incredible, I will jump at the chance to review them anytime I can, and they have always had a way with mixing surprising elements into their brand of nature-inspired black metal. It seems that they are going to keep to that trend, and maybe throw some surprises out there, with their latest release, the all-acoustic Syys, which is also their second full-length release of this year. See? That’s my rationale.

CANTO: Shadows Fall, October Falls, Havok, and More

Tomorrow’s my Friday, but it doesn’t matter much because I don’t think today will ever end.
- Shadows Falls, a name I haven’t heard in a long time, are reissuing Of One Blood on vinyl through M-Theory Audio. It marks the 20th anniversary of the album and will be released on Black Friday/RSD.
- October Falls is releasing an acoustic record through Purity Through Fire on October 31st, titled Syys. Check out the first single from that record, “III”, right now.
- Fates Warning have launched a new single and lyric video for “Now Comes the Rain”. Long Day Good Night is out on November 6th through Metal Blade.
- Havok have released a new music video for “Fear Campaign”, which is taken from their most recent full-length album V. That dropped back in May of this year through Century Media. Check it out.

The Third Circle of Bandcamp: May 2020 Edition
ACAB. Black Lives Matter. Transphobes can DIAF.
What, you don’t come here for the politics? Too fuckin’ bad. This is my house. Two things make me happy: people in the streets, and music. I can’t be in the streets due to health reasons, but I can sure as shit find and share music. So that’s what I’m doing.
Why link those two things together? Because tomorrow Bandcamp is donating 100% of their cut to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. So go buy some tunes. Buy lots of tunes. Because if there’s one thing I know, it’s that cops are throwing Black people in jail during these protests, and they’re going to need lawyers. So make with the buying.
Album Review: October Falls — “A Fall of an Epoch”

The band’s signature sound, described as “nature-oriented black metal,” is perfectly crafted here. This is a black metal album with folky, atmospheric interludes offering moments of peace and solitude between killer riffs and Mikko Lehto’s howling vocals. The perfect balance between the two musical styles makes for a beautiful and provoking album. Continue reading
