The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 87 (7.13.2019)

playlist - mixtape

So, another Saturday is upon us and what are you doing with it? Outside maybe? Well, obviously not if you’re reading this and thank you, by the way, for that. Once you get done reading, take this playlist of tunes with you and get the heck outside. Or do something. I’m sure there’s a show playing local to you or a pool to get into or a creek to cool off in. You get the point, just do something but play this loud as hell whatever you’re doing. Yesterday was one hell of a release day and we’ve got a little of that here plus a whole lot more. You know the drill, hit the play button and let the rough side drag. That’s what the weekend is for.

New week, new set of circumstances, new opportunities, and new metal which is the one reason we’re here. As some band once said ‘nothing else matters.’ And with that, let’s get on with it.

This week will be remembered for many reasons, I’m sure, but the biggest of which is whatever you thought you knew about Lord Dying forget it and make way for their new, more progressive, more classically psychedelic, and more fantastic look on Mysterium Tremendum – talk about surprises, it’s nearly impossible to tell this is the same band but make no mistake, it IS amazing. Then we’ve got black metallers Murg who moved mountains with their debut Gudatall but return to grab the sky and move it too on Strävan, it’s everything that was great about their debut, just better and particularly so in the memorable songwriting department. Next is everyone’s favorite droners Sunn O))) (say it with me…sun) who return with another slab of frequencies on Life Metal that are so heavy you can feel them, or breathe them – points if you know where that came from and if you missed out on RSD, now’s your chance. Last up top but certainly not least is Spotlights who prove that post-metal as a tag is limiting seeing as how Love & Decay is so much more with its power, haunting melodies, and wisps of granite destroying heaviness – ‘iron tone in a velvet glove’ was part of the promo accompaniments and it couldn’t be more accurate.

Beyond that you’ll just have to explore for yourself. Get in there… Continue reading

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 73 (03.30.2019)

You might have noticed brother Vincent is away on some business. He’s off fighting demon hordes and stealing souls…I kid, I kid. But there’s no doubt that when he returns, he’ll be regaling us with all the killer beer he’s had and all the earsplitting metal he listened to whilst slaying the road. Anyway, it’s SATURDAY folks – we made it! If you missed anything here this week, go back and catch up. For now though, we’ve got another good playlist of tunes to help make the weekend better and you know what to do. Right? Surely by now you do? I mean, 73 editions of this thing… you got this. Now, GO.

10/24/2017. I’m back but still recovering. Let’s do this.

I’m no 9Electric fan, but bringing attention to breast cancer and suicide prevention and awareness gets this video/band props in my book.
