The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 257 (11.12.2022)

We’re coming into the end times…the end of the year times where most of the year’s albums have either been released (or we’re at least gotten the promos to digest), so here at 9C headquarters we’ve been sifting through what we loved, what we didn’t, and what we missed and need to consider before building our respective lists. For me that was Haunter, so we’re kicking off the 257th edition of the Nine Circles Playlist with a 13-minute track because hey…maybe you missed it, too.

After that it’s a blackened ol’ time with the likes of Stormruler and Morbikon before heading off into the cobwebbed corners of the metalverse with new -(16)-, The Death Wheelers, Ashen Horde, Liturgy, KEN mode, Dream Unending, the mighty return of Ahab, something called Bizarrerkult (thanks Anton), Die Sünde and Castle Rat, as well as some ripping Tomb Mold demos and a stone cold classic from Judas Priest to close things out. Plus some more surprises I was too lazy to write out in this post.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

Chris

CANTO: Goatwhore, Soen, Stormruler, and More

Goatwhore

Two more work days until another break. Is it bad that this is my attitude these days?

  • Soen unveiled a cover of Slipknot’s “Snuff” today, and that’s as good of a place to start as any. Give the performance video a watch here. That is taken from their forthcoming release, Atlantis, which is out on November 18th through Silver Lining Music.
  • Stormruler has been one of my favorite recent discoveries, and with the release of Sacred Rites & Black Magick coming this Friday, I think dropping in the new lyric video for “Upon Frozen Shores” is appropriate. That album will be out through Napalm Records.
  • Like Ants And Snakes, the latest from Mord’A’Stigmata, is on my list of shit to check out this week. I just haven’t yet. So let’s at least give “I am the Arm” a listen while we have a couple of minutes. That album is out on November 4th through Pagan Records.
  • Angels Hung from the Arches of Heaven, the latest from Goatwhore, is absolutely incredible. So naturally, the best way to wrap up the day is with the new video for the title-track, which you can see below. That album is out now through Metal Blade.

CANTO: Stormruler, Behemoth, Exhumed, and More

Last Canto until October? Last Canto until October (probably).

  • Gonna bookend this with a couple videos today, since you’ll miss me on Friday. First, we have the clip for “Versvs Christvs” from Behemoth. Opvs Contra Natvram is out now through Nuclear Blast, and I am officially late in listening to it. Maybe on my flight tomorrow night…
  • Exhumed are releasing To The Dead on October 21st through Relapse Records, and today they shared the latest offering from that album. Give “Carbonized” a watch and listen here, while you’re putting in those preorders of course.
  • Gospelheim shared the third and final single from Ritual & Repetition, ahead of its release on October 21st through Prophecy. Give “The Hall of the Unconsumed” a listen here.
  • I’m excited about the new Stormruler, so that’s the note I’ll leave you on for the next week and change. The video for “Internal Fulmination Of The Grand Deceivers” is below, the second single taken from Sacred Rites & Black Magic. That album drops on October 14th through Napalm Records.

CANTO: Stormruler, Lacuna Coil, Clutch, and More

The new Soilwork is awesome. Chris wrote a whole review about it. Read it.

  • Lacuna Coil are releasing Comalies XX, a remade version of their iconic 2002 album marking its anniversary. That will be out on October 14th through Century Media, and a clip for “Tight Rope XX” is available here.
  • Clutch is popular, so we’ll jump there next. They unveiled a new single and video, titled “Slaughter Beach”, which can be viewed here. That track, naturally, is taken from Sunrise On Slaughter Beach, which drops one month from today through Weathermaker.
  • Labyrinth of Stars, the new project featuring members of Valborg and Lantlôs, are streaming a new track over at Brooklyn Vegan titled “Dissolving Into The Eternal Nothingness”. That’s the latest from their debut album, Spectrum Xenomorph, which drops on September 30th through Translation Loss.
  • We’re going to close with something I’ve been anticipating for a bit now, and that is the latest from Stormruler. Their new album, Sacred Rites & Black Magick is set for an October 14th release through Napalm Records. Check out the video for the title track here. It rules.
