Does Twitter still work? Does anybody care? We certainly don’t.

Donuts & CANTO: The 69 Eyes, Unearth, Omnium Gatherum, and More

That’s right. It’s Saturday morning. Time to mix things up and have some donuts with your canto. Or a breakfast beer. Dealer’s choice. Anyway, what did we miss last night while I was at the bar?

  • Unearth emerged today with a new single, titled “Mother Betrayal”. Pre-orders started yesterday (almost typed ‘today’) for The Wretched; The Ruinous, which is out on May 5 through Century Media.
  • Omnium Gatherum are releasing their new EP, Slasher, on June 2 also through Century Media. For a preview of that collection, give the video for the title-track a watch here.
  • With Exul arriving on March 24 through Season of Mist, Ne Obliviscaris released a new live video for “And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope”. That clip features performance footage from Melbourne in 2019.
  • Wisconsin death metal group Micawber shared a new single titled The Cremation of Care, out through Prosthetic Records. That marks their first new material since 2018’s Beyond the Reach of Flame, so we’ll see what else 2023 has in store for them.
  • New Lordi feels like the right thing on a weekend morning. Their new digital single, “Thing In The Cage”, can be heard here. Screem Writers Guild is out later this month through Atomic Fire. And I can’t decide if spelling ‘scream’ as ‘screem’ annoys me. I mean, I know why they went with that… but was there actually any concern the pun would overlooked if they spelled it right? This is the shit I think about post-bar. ANYWAY.
  • The 69 Eyes dropped a video for the title-track of their upcoming new album, Death Of Darkness, which you can see below. The release date for that one is April 21 through Atomic Fire Records.

CANTO: Darkthrone, Lykotonon, Killswitch Engage, and More

How come I seem to get sick after doing literally anything these days?

  • Wayfarer and Wake are touring together this December. Unfortunately, it’s only a handful of dates, none of which are need me, but take a look at the full schedule here. If you can get to this one, do it, and make me jealous.
  • Some of the same people, but a very different vibe. Lykotonon revealed a new track from Promethean Pathology, titled “The Primal Principle”. Give it a listen here. That album is out on November 25 through Profound Lore.
  • Killswitch Engage have announced three shows in late December to celebrate the holiday season, in New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts. They’ll be joined by Rivers of Nihil and Unearth, so this is going to be a good time. Get tickets here.
  • Aborted are about to hit the road with Lorna Shore, so let’s drop in their new single. Give “Infinite Terror” a listen here, their first single in partnership with Nuclear Blast.
  • Of course, it would be a mistake to not close with Darkthrone… lest I feel the wrath of Chris. So give “Caravan of Broken Ghosts” a listen immediately below. Astral Fortress is out on October 28 through Peaceville Records… which is a week from Friday. Damn.

CANTO: Shadows Fall, Teeth, Abstracted, and More

It’s been raining the last couple of days, and I definitely don’t hate it.

  • Shadows Fall have announced their return to the stage. On December 18th they’ll be taking the Palladium stage in Worcester, MA with the likes of Unearth, Darkest Hour, Within The Ruins, Sworn Enemy, and Carnivora. A trailer for the event can be seen here, and tickets go on sale later this week. Those can be found at this location.
  • Los Angeles extreme metal collective Teeth have announced a new full-length effort. Finite is set for a November 26th release through Translation Loss Records, and pre-order/pre-save options are available here. Better yet, a new track titled “Concubine” is available for your streaming pleasure right now.
  • Unreqvited have unveiled the second single from Beautiful Ghosts. This one is titled “Funeral Pyre”, and is available here. A quick reminder that Beautiful Ghosts drops on August 13th through Prophecy Productions, and you can pick that up right here.
  • And we’ll close with some progressive death metal out of Brazil. This is the new music video from Abstracted for “Wither To Dust”. That one is taken from their debut full-length, Atma Conflux, which drops sometime later this year through M-Theory Audio. More details coming soon.
