CANTO: Misery Index, Absent In Body, Sundowning, and More

Not going to lie, there’s some cool stuff out there today.

  • Like Misery Index, who announced May 13th as the release date for their next album, Complete Control. That will be out through Century Media, with the first single being unveiled in the coming weeks. They’re also on tour with Origin and Wolf King this coming May, so busy times are ahead.
  • Sundowning, the German post-metal collective, have announced their first album in a decade. In the Light of Defeat, I Cease to Exist will drop on March 25th through Isolation Records. For a glimpse of what’s to come, check out “A Prison, A Cage”, right now.
  • Tool, a band I shockingly haven’t mentioned in awhile, are releasing Opiate2 to mark its 30th anniversary. That will be out through RCA Records on March 1st, and a short film will follow on the 18th. Pre-order that here.
  • Twin Temple entertained us today with the new video for “Let’s Have A Satanic Orgy”. They’re currently on tour with Ghost and Volbeat, if you weren’t aware.
  • And we’ll close with the new track from Absent In Body, titled “Sarin”. The debut album from the project featuring members of Amenra, Neurosis, and Sepultura is set for a March 25th release through Relapse Records. And no, I cannot wait.

CANTO: Christian Death, Satan, Midnight, and More

I truly cannot believe we are just over the hump this week.

  • Let’s start with The Space Control Tour 2022, which features the likes of Misery Index, Origin, and Wolf King. That’s an awesome trio. Those dates run through the month of May, kicking off on the 6th in Chicago. Tickets go on sale Friday here.
  • Eight Bells premiered a new track and video recently, titled “The Well”, which you can check out here. That’s another one from Legacy of Ruin, which will be out on February 25th through Prophecy Productions.
  • I’ve heard really good things from the new Midnight album, Let There Be Witchery, so I suppose it would be a good idea to include new material from that one. So, here’s “Nocturnal Molestation“. That album drops on March 4th through Metal Blade.
  • Another one from Metal Blade today features Satan. Their sixth studio album, Earth Infernal, is set for an April 1st release. You can pre-order that, and check out “Burning Portrait”, right here.
  • We’ll close with new material from Christian Death. Evil Becomes Rule is out on May 6th through Season of Mist, and a visualizer for “Blood Moon” is available below. They’ve also got May tour dates coming up, so make sure you get in on that as well.

Nine Circles ov…What Didn’t Make My 2021 End of Year List…(But Could Have)

It starts like it does every other year, with me desperately trying to whittle down the list of incredible albums I listened to into a manageable number. Well, maybe not so manageable; I know I’m known around these parts as the guy whose lists are waaaaay too long. But there’s so much out there, so many albums that impact me in large and small ways. Maybe it’s a riff, or a chorus, or a certain vocal line. It doesn’t matter; I just know I want to acknowledge it in some way and pass it on. Maybe it will impact you, too.

You’d think a list of 40 albums – my “official” Top 25 ranked list and an Honorable Mention list of 15 other albums in alphabetical order would be enough (it is for Decibel). But it never is. So for the past few years I’ve tacked on an additional nine albums that may not have made my lists for various reasons, but I still love and want to put on your radar. It’s never too late too discover something. Time may move ever forward, but these great records will forever be here for you to discover. Forget labels. Forget hype and marketing. Take a look (better yet, take a listen) to this edition of Nine Circles ov… and see what didn’t make my list for 2021…but maybe should have.

CANTO: Rivers of Nihil, Mono, Nekromant, and More

All of a sudden it’s super hot out? Dumb.

  • Let’s start with Mono, a crowd favorite here at Nine Circles. Today they released another new single and video, “Innocence”, from Pilgrimage of the Soul. That album is set for a September 17th release through Pelagic Records… a label that has been on an absolute roll this year.
  • Swedish heavy metal trio Nekromant have announced their fourth full-length album. Temple Of Haal will be out on December 3rd through their new label home, Despotz Records. Give “The Woods” a listen… right now.
  • I’d also recommend jumping on over to Decibel to check out this full set performed by Wolf King, Live at Rapture Recordings. That set, of course, showcases material from their second album, The Path of Wrath, which dropped this passed March through Prosthetic Records.
  • Let’s close with the new music video from Rivers of Nihil, which I have seen all over the interwebs today. The clip for “Focus” is available directly below, a track taken from The Work. That album drops on September 24th through Metal Blade.
