That’s right, folks — four years ago today, Dan and Corey registered the first email address for Nine Circles (then known as Horns Up…oof…) and started us off on this crazy adventure through which we’ve come to become, erm…somewhat positive contributors to the metal blogosphere? I guess?
SO, to celebrate, the two founders — plus current editors / writers / life-signer-awayers extraordinaire Josh Stewart and Chris Voss — got together and recorded a special birthday audio thing. We took a look back at the blog’s origins, assessed where we are now, and put forth some ideas for the future that we’re all pretty excited about. After a demo recording and a split with fellow metal dad Domestikwom, New York’s Necrolytic Goat Converter are set to unveil their first full length album, Isolated Evolution. In the interest of transparency, it should be noted that the man behind Necrolytic Goat Converter, one Chris Voss, is a friend and fellow writer here at Nine Circles. Let me tell you, though, if I found this album lying on the sidewalk, picked it up, and listened to it without knowing who made it or what I was in store for, I would still have found an album that truly captivates and resonates with me. End of the year, ladies and gentlemen. The time when lists flow like liquor at an office party, where the online community comes together as one gargantuan digital animal to do what it does best: nitpick, subtweet, and throw so many accusations of pandering, overrated and “hipster” picks that come December 31st we’ll all be sick and tired and never want to do this shit again.
