CANTO: Ghost, Sanctuary, Iron Maiden Masks(?), and More
I’m going to try to do these more often because I guess Chris likes them for some reason.
- Iron Maiden Halloween masks? I mean, sure.
- Ever want to go camping with all of your metal buddies? Word of advice beforehand: Try not to get mistaken for a suicide cult.
- This is relevant because I just saw Sanctuary without Warrell Dane (still haven’t posted images yet because I suck, but I’m getting there). According to this interview, there may be an attempt to carry on with Joseph Michael. Interesting.
- Here’s 30 seconds of a new Ghost song called “Rats” because I’m done trying today. Sorry, Chris.
“Ein Bier… bitte.”

Blood Red: Hoop-Tober 4.0 – The Final Chapter
Happy Halloween! There’s no better time to wrap up my annual Hoop-Tober horror marathon than by re-visiting some old classics and just marveling at how the masters of the genre did it bigger and better all those years ago. The first two entries in the Friday the 13th series may have done more damage than good in the sheer glut of poor copycat films that came after, but they’re still a rip to watch. John Carpenter’s original Halloween still stands as a singular achievement in pacing and streamlined storytelling. Wes Craven brings the horror a gleefully evil personality for the first time in the original and best A Nightmare on Elm Street. And to this day there is still no terror like the slam of a steel door signalling you’re trapped in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Step inside and let’s end this thing in style… Continue reading
Halloween Deuce: Void Meditation Cult and Terrortron
Halloween is a joyous occasion for many around the world, myself included. It’s a time when horror and gore is shared proudly, little ones enjoy trick or treating, haunted houses, and an opportunity to consume the most horrific media that can be found. Whether this is through music or movies or both, it is either an excuse to get caught up or a purposeful binge. With that in mind we have two albums for your perusal that could just as easily soundtrack a sacrifice as it could a Halloween party. Exhibit A: Void Meditation Cult‘s throughly dark, black/death metal full length debut, Utter the Tongue of the Dead. Exhibit B: Terrortron‘s horror-synth second full length, Necrophiliac Among the Living Dead. Continue reading
Throwback Thursday: Trick or Treat
With Halloween just around the corner there’s no better time for a Throwback Thursday of the 1986 horror film Trick or Treat and Fastway‘s excellent soundtrack for the same film. Sure the movie is a little cheesy at times as well as a picture-perfect tale of teen angst but it stays focused on the aspects I love the most; metal and horror. Fastway, coming off of an album that veered away from heavy metal, found their sweet spot again here. Equal parts heavy metal and rock-n-roll, it compliments the movie seamlessly but also stands strong on its own. Continue reading
