CANTO: Upcoming shows and a killer new Abbath track

There are concerts I am excited about. Isn’t that great?

CANTO: New Ocean’s on its way, Ned Flanders-themed metal, and more!

I’ve got a couple of hours to kill before I head up to Vitus for Godhunter, Destroyer of Light and Immortal Bird. Yet at the same time, there’s nothing I want to do less than stay at the office. Oh well. I’ll solve that problem eventually, but in the meantime, here are your Canto:

  • Apparently there’s a Phoenix hardcore band that’s based entirely on Simpsons character Ned Flanders. The band’s name? Okilly Dokilly.
  • Ghost have been forced to reschedule their upcoming visit to Philly. Why’s that? Well, a certain guy named Francis will also be in town that day. IRONY: TOP SCORE.
  • More cool stuff from the Lamb of God camp: the band’s going to be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on August 27. Very well deserved.
  • And finally, here’s a new Trivium song. It’s actually — and I can’t believe I’m about to write this — tolerable. Check out “Blind Leading the Blind” here:

The band’s new album, Silence in the Snow, comes out October 2. In the meantime, I’m going to go perform an exorcism on myself. Later, kids.

Quickies: More Tours, Album Sales, and David Lee Roth’s Busted Face

Hello, everyone. After a rare early weekday off from Quickies, I’m back. And, of course, it’s April Fools Day. That said, I have no idea whether or not the below articles are legit. Let’s be real, I don’t look into these things that much. I invite you to be as skeptical as I am.

The band features Baroness’ Pete Adams, so naturally it caught my attention. Not a bad track, either. The new album, Shadows, will be out May 19th.

Quickies: Steel Panther plays Kimmel, Alice in Chains playing NFC Championship, and GODDAMMIT PSYCHO CALIFORNIA

It’s Friday! Time to cap off probably the busiest week we’ve ever had here at Horns Up—with some Quickies! Here’s what we missed in the metal world today:

  • It’s times like these that I hate living on the East Coast: check out the lineup for this year’s Psycho California festival. Sleep. Earth. Pallbearer. Old Man Gloom. Wo Fat. Goddammit. (That last one isn’t a band, but wouldn’t it be cool if it was??)
  • Need a nice kick in the ass to start your weekend? Check out the new Morgoth track “Black Enemy.” Oh yeah, the guys also announced a new album, Ungod, which will drop in April.
  • Alice in Chains will be performing at the halftime show of Sunday’s NFC Championship game, which is really great news if you’re actually going to be at the game! (And really “who-gives-a-fuck-they-won’t-show-a-non-Super-Bowl-halftime-show-on-TV-anyway” news if you’re not!)
  • After an eternity’s worth of development under Paramount and MTV, the film adaptation of Mötley Crüe‘s autobiography, The Dirt, is switching studios and will now be a Focus Features joint. You know, as if it’ll ever actually come to fruition anyway…
  • And finally, here’s footage of Steel Panther‘s performance on last night’s edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live:

Kinda lolarious how out-of-sync the audio is with the visuals in this YouTube upload. GOOD JOB, KIMMEL TEAM! Anyway, that’ll wrap things up for tonight. A happy long-weekend to you all!
