By now, it has become customary for me to recall at the turn of the year how great the past 12 months were for metal and its myriad sub-genres and styles, and how difficult it has become to keep one’s head above the water in the face of the deluge of releases. I have been listening to metal for over 25 years but am still astonished and impressed on a daily basis by the boundless imagination on display, be it the ever-blossoming creativity of bands who have been operating for 20 years or the ravenous appetite of newcomers. Circle Pit: Albums We Missed Q1, 2019
I don’t know about you, but 2019 started a little thin and then by the first quarter’s end just exploded all over the good linen like a beast. This year, more than most, we’ve been a little behind the ball in getting reviews out, but with a lot of new blood coming in I have a feeling that’s going to change soon. In the meantime we got your quarterly round up right here of all the stuff we wanted to review, should have reviewed, but didn’t.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 69 (03.02.2019)
First off: NICE
Second: holy shit how am I alive right now. I’ve been sick for pretty much this whole week and folks I gotta say, it’s not fun (although staying home from work has been very choice indeed). Extreme thanks for picking up my duties this week goes out to my Nine Circles brethren, I’m thankful for the great friends I do this with, including our newest additions to the crew Marie and Charles. Being sick doesn’t mean I’ve been off my music listening game, though, and neither have my cohorts, so check the link down below for the best of what we’ve been jamming. We have such sights to show you.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 67 (02.16.2019)
Welcome to the glorious end of another week. This is especially nice for me, as I’m staring a nice three-day weekend in the face at the moment, which is gonna give me plenty of time to catch up on all the new releases I’ve been slacking on getting to (I did check out the Coltsblood and Un split today and boy howdy was that some good doom). You can catch me holed up in my bed with my tablet and Spotify for 72 uninterrupted hours as the greater Los Angeles area slowly succumbs to the relentless sheets of rain we’ve been having for the last two weeks. And if you need some listening inspiration, check out what tunes we’ve been digging below. Stay cozy, wherever you are.
