It happens like it does every year: things fall through the cracks, promos don’t arrive, or we simply didn’t have the capacity to cover everything we want to cover, let alone everything that comes out in a calendar year. At this point folks are finalizing end of year lists and maybe – just maybe – some of these records will be represented on them, and so some accounting was in order. Or it could just be that we needed some content this week, so I went through my folder of 2022 music and picked nine albums to briefly opine on for this latest edition of Nine Circles ov…

CANTO: Deathwhite, Mantar, Terror, and More

Well, once again it was proven that The Ocean is greater than all things.

Deathwhite has impressed lately, so let’s start there. Their third full-length, Grey Everlasting, is set for a June 10th release through Season of Mist. The first single, “Earthtomb”, is available for your streaming pleasure.
New material should be emerging from Mantar in the near future. The extreme metal duo has signed on with Metal Blade and is currently wrapping up their fourth studio album. We should expect that sometime in the summer, which is awesome.
Ok, digging back into yesterday news for the next couple of items. Placebo have announced their first North American tour in eight years. The dates cover September 4th through the 18th, before they head to Europe for a long stretch of shows to round out 2022.
Hardcore legends Terror have announced a new album, slated for a May 6th release. Pain Into Power will be out through Pure Noise Records, and you can check out “Can’t Help But Hate” right now.
The new Zeal & Ardor is incredible, so we’ll wrap up with the video for “Death to the Holy”. The third, self-titled, album is out now. Did I mention it’s incredible?

Big week here on the new metal front, and of course, your boy’s nursing a bit of a hangover from last night’s Noisey showcase at Saint Vitus. Big ups to all the bands that played, and big downs to the amount of alcohol that was consumed coming back to bite me in the ass. Oh well. I guess this is what happens when Dan tries to concert on a weeknight…

Anyway, what’s dropping today? All kinds of stuff. We’ve got new full-lengths from Aaron Turner and Sumac, as well as from Boston’s Astronoid and San Diego’s Ghoulgotha. Plus, if you feel like getting #MetalTwitter’s panties in a knot, there’s also a physical reissue of Ghost Bath‘s Moonlover, which originally dropped last year. A bunch more in the works, so let’s jump into it — here’s what’s on tap for this week:

CANTO: RIP Nick Menza, Cobalt tour, and Ozzy train

This happened over the weekend and you’ll hear us discuss further when the podcast airs tomorrow. But still.. RIP Nick Menza.
Summer’s Laughter, I mean… Summer Slaughter, has revealed its tour dates. Go to it. Or don’t. I really don’t care.
Cobalt will he hitting the road across the United States in September. Support will be provided by Mantar.
Busy times of Ozzy Osbourne. More fun this time though. Apparently he is getting a Birmingham train named after him. What an honor.

Phew. We’ve had a few big weeks in a row, so I’m not gonna lie…it’s kinda nice to have a bit of a slower one this week. And also, I’m off work today, so I can actually catch up on some of this stuff! Anyway, “slower” doesn’t mean “slow,” though. There’s still a bunch of cool stuff dropping: from Swedish hardcore legends Victims (whom our own Manny-O-War just interviewed), to the debut full-length from Chicago death crew Nucleus.
