While The Metal Tour of the Year may have technically reached its conclusion a couple of weeks ago, and festival season is now upon us, there is no doubt that the dust is still settling in the aftermath of this massive event. Featuring the legendary Megadeth as headliners, this run of shows also included household names in Lamb of God, Trivium, and In Flames. Four of the most recognizable names in the metal world each bringing a different corner of the genre’s spectrum to this tour. Considering all we had missed since early 2020, this experience went a long way to welcoming back larger scale live music, and as a result will resonate many years into the future.

CANTO: Sumac, Sepultura, Bask, and More
The snow has officially fallen. Not upset.
- Let’s start with this video of Trivium’s Matt Heafy jamming out with Sepultura for “Slave New World”. That’s part of the SepulQuarta series, which you may have heard of once or twice.
- Sumac surprised us with a new single today. “Two Beasts” is an 18-minute behemoth that is all of the heavy and all of the experimental we could hope for. Scoop that monster up on their Bandcamp page right now.
- Bask dropped a couple riff and beat rundown videos over on their YouTube channel today. The clips feature tracks “Ramble Beyond” and “Three White Feet”, the latter of which was taken from 2019’s release through Season of Mist, III.
- Into Eternity dropped a new song, “Nuclear”, over the weekend. Feel free to stream or download it here, and be sure to check out the playthrough video immediately below. We can also expect a full-length sometime next year, which definitely does not suck.

CANTO: Soilwork, Tribulation, Allegaeon, and More
Saturday post because SO many things happened yesterday.
- Allegaeon released a new digital single, Concerto in Dm, which features that title-track and B-side “In Flanders Fields”. Those tracks date back to the Apoptosis days, and you can check out a play-through and documentary here.
- Trivium’s Matt Heafy has teamed up with social media person/human/whatever Jared Dines to create the Dines X Heafy EP. Watch the video for the single “Dear Anxiety” if you feel so inclined.
- Tribulation opened my Friday with a pretty substantial lineup change. Jonathan Hultén has made the decision to pursue other paths, with Joseph Tholl taking his place. There appears to be no negative feelings in any direction… but this is still weird for me.
- And finally, Soilwork released a new video for “A Whisp Of The Atlantic”, the title-track from their new EP which dropped Friday through Nuclear Blast.

CANTO: Trivium, Carnation, Kataklysm, and More
Holy Hell I am tired today. Thankfully, my new Churchburn hat showed up in the mail.
- Kataklysm guitarist Jean-François Dagenais recently tested positive for COVID-19 and had been experiencing some pretty severe symptoms. He dropped a message today to shed some light on his experience. Hopefully he continues to feel better.
- On August 29th, this coming Saturday, Trivium are offering up “The Deepest Cuts” free live stream event. It will take place in their rehearsal room, and will be broadcast through Matt Heafy’s Twitch channel.
- Belgian death metallers Carnation have shared the title-track from their upcoming new album, Where Death Lies. The record is set to be released on September 18th through Season of Mist.
- NoN (formerly Now Or Never) dropped a new single and music video for “Ordinary World” through Crusader Records. If some melodic metal seems like a good way to end your Monday, have at it.

CANTO: Ihsahn, Varathron, Black Sabbath, and More
“She spoke to me like hope was real, that peace was something I could feel.”
- Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister will have his story shared as a biopic, which we should all be excited for. Depending on how things play out, it looks like production could start early next year.
- I’m pretty much fed up with the world, so I’m going to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to invest in this Black Sabbath shirt. Proceeds go directly to Black Live Matter, so make it happen.
- Ihsahn and Trivium‘s Matt Heafy are coming together for a black metal project titled Mrityu, which I think most of us already knew. Well, we have a real update from the studio to share today.
- Varathron has announced a new live album, Glorification Under The Latin Moon, will drop on September 25th through Agonia Records. The album features footage from their 30th anniversary tour.
- And we’ll close with a new music video from Kaamos Warriors for “Kuilu”. Their next album, titled Kirous, will be out sometime later this year.
