Otep is back with a new record, Generation Doom, that is due out April 15th (today). Vocalist Otep Shamaya had claimed that she was “done” with music after touring for her 2013 album “Hydra”. I am sure that left the nu-metal masses in a wave of angsty depression over the last couple years, but fear not! Otep is back! The time off has filled her with Fred Durst-ey rapping, Jonathan Davis-ey crying, and well, Otep-ey screaming rage! Continue reading

The Nine Circles Podcast: Episode 4 (June 14, 2015)
The guys take the music discussion a bit broader than normal and assess whether the launch of Apple Music spells doom for Spotify. Don’t worry, things get metal-centric again when they jump into news from Otep, as well as new releases from False, Gorgoroth and Temple of Dagon. And then, since it’s been too long since we’ve had a good rant, they then go on about recent news-making events down in McKinney, TX!
All that and much, much more in Episode 4, so check it out!

CANTO: Updates from Ghost, Children of Bodom, Entombed A.D. and More
This Tuesday can rightly go fuck itself in all the holes.
- As anticipated, Ghost will be touring this coming September. There are a ton of dates so they’ll probably be in your area eventually. Also, the tour is called “Black to the Future”, which is super clever. Nope.
- Children of Bodom are set to drop their next studio album, I Worship Chaos, October 2nd. Halo of Blood was a nice return to form for them, so I’m a little excited. But only a little.
- For those unaware, Otep Shamaya was attacked on stage this past weekend. How did she handle it? She beat the shit out of the dude with her mic stand.
- So this is weird. I’m sure I’m not the only one that was excited about the Deicide tour featuring Hate Eternal and Entombed A.D. Well, now Entombed A.D. is no longer going to be present… and we have no idea why.
- At this point we all know about the awesome flame-throwing guitar player in Fury Road. This isn’t quite as aggressive, but it is real. Check out this flame-throwing ukulele:
That’s it. I’m leaving.

Quickies: Babymetal’s record deal, Motörhead’s halloween masks and more

Corey’s on the way home from Boston so you’ve got me for Quickies today. Let’s hop on into it, then, shall we? Here’s what we missed in the metal world today:
- Kicking off, Babymetal have signed a deal with RAL / Sony Music for the U.S. release of their self-titled debut album. As Axl points out, the band signed with the same label as Brooklyn teens Unlocking the Truth. Let’s hope that works out better for Babymetal than it has for UtT…
- Next up, some news that should come as little surprise: Terror Universal has parted ways with frontman Chad Armstrong, following his alleged sexual assault of Otep frontwoman Otep Shamaya. The guys can say it’s due to “personal differences” all they want; we’re not buying.
- Ever wanted to dress up as Motörhead‘s mascot for Halloween? Well, good news—now you can!
- Black Sabbath canceled their supposed “farewell” appearance at Ozzfest Japan, but…maybe there’s a full-on farewell tour in store? We’ll see, I guess.
- And finally, Welsh sludge crew Hark put out a new video for their song, “Palendromeda,” which you can watch below:
Not bad at all. Their debut full-length, Crystalline, is out now on Season of Mist. Anyway, that’ll do it for me. Check back tomorrow for more!
Keep it heavy,

Quickies: New Stuff from Wintersun, Updates from Otep and Mick Thomson, and More!
It’s Monday. Everything sucks. I’ve got shit to do. So I’m going to be brief.
- I never thought I’d be talking about H&M on this blog. But behold, the clothing chain has attempted to sell us merch from bands that don’t exist on a label that doesn’t exist. If anyone isn’t annoyed but this, we need to have a chat.
- Last week we brought you the sad news that Twisted Sister dummer A.J. Pero had passed away. An update from Dee Snider indicates it may have been the result of a heart attack.
- More disturbing news. Otep has canceled their tour plans due to sexual harassment claims. Singer Otep Shamaya posted on the band’s Facebook account that Terror Universal’s singer was involved. Naturally, these claims have been vehemently denied. Weird shit.
- I mentioned recently about the stabbing incident involving Mick Thomson of Slipknot. Today, it’s been reported that charges have been filed against the guitarist.
- Finally, how could I not close with footage of a new Wintersun track?
That number is called “Forest” and was performed at Paganfest. Sounds fun, can’t wait for the new album to be released in 17 years.
Anyway, that’ll do it.
