It’s not today as I’m writing this. As such, I’ve got a new bottle of Private Barrel Select Russell’s Reserve to get into so there’s a good chance you’ll be seeing more on a select few of the albums in this new release list later this week. That’s how I roll. Sometimes. Anyway, new stuff, we got it and you need it. First up is the outstanding new album from Vokonis who have come a loooong way since their debut, next up is Herzschlager who share members with another bearded bunch of beasts and subsequently have a beast of their own on a new EP, then we’ve got some dirty speed metal from Poisöned Speed and, honestly, who doesn’t love dirty speed metal… and bringing up the rear of top slots is Osiah and whether you call them death metal, deathcore, or just Satan’s death car, it all fits. Go and do the thing.

Initial Descent: August 30 – September 5, 2020

Allfather

Not sure how much worse 2020 can get but, tomorrow is coming. So, there’s that. New metal this week kicks off with the bearded savages known as Allfather who have an EP up for grabs with two killer new tracks and some killer live cuts from their past—-this freaking rips so get on it. Cult of Lilith chart some untread progressive death metal waters on their excellent full length debut, supergroup Cobra Spell offer up a blazing EP of sleazy, shredding (think Sunset Strip in the 80s) heavy metal, and progressive metallers Oceans of Slumber return with their fourth full length. Dive in, grab some metal, and buckle up for who knows what the hell is coming next.

The Nine Circles Audio Thing: Allfather’s Tom Ballard on “And All Will Be Desolation” and much more!

allfather band

Back in September, Allfather released their first ‘official’ full length, And All Will Be Desolation, and if you’ve been even the most casual of fan, it’s undeniable how astounding their progression is on this album. If you’ve followed them since the beginning (No gods. No masters.) as I have, you must have been as blown away as was I. Everything about their doom by way of hardcore by way of death metal by way of sludge is thicker and heavier than anything they’ve done leading up to this, but it’s the way they’ve grown in the songwriting department that shines the most. I’ve been speaking with vocalist Tom Ballard over messages and emails for some time now but recently had the chance to chat with him about the new album, fan interactions and so much more. It was great, after all this time, to finally have a one on one with him so head inside to hear how it went. Continue reading

Album Review: Allfather – “And All Will Be Desolation”

Allfather - And All WIll Be Desolation

Throw a stone into any blackened corner of the world and chances are before you hit dirt you’ll hit a hardcore band.  Standing out from the crowd of people down-tuning their guitars and barking their rage through riff and breakdown is getting harder and harder, and in a genre where the vocals/lyrics are actually discernable you need to be even more on your game.  Mixing doom, sludge, and a healthy dose of good old fashioned heavy metal into their sound, UK’s Allfather have slowly been distinguishing themselves from the rest of the herd, but on new album And All Will Be Desolation they take a gigantic leap forward to deliver a bruising, vital record that firmly leaves their brethren behind.   Continue reading

Krisiun

We’re hitting you with this one on Labor Day so hopefully all of today’s visitors have the day off and the time to actually go through this list of new releases. That also means NO MONDAY BLUES. Until tomorrow. Ugh. Nevermind that for now, keep reading.

Starting us off is everyone’s favorite Brazilians Krisiun with their eleventh full length, Scourge of the Enthroned, and honestly if it weren’t for the rest of this list, I could make a home inside their robust ass kicking death metal. But, there’s MA’s Morne up next with To the Night Unknown and I’m not sure if you’ve been following this band or not but you’ll want to now —- this band is doing truly amazing and unique things with doom and post-metal. And then there’s Pig Destroyer who cut the strings on a six year silence with the abrasive yet instantly catchy Head Cage, one thing I’ve learned over the past several years is these guys can do no wrong and whether you’re into grindcore or not GET THIS ALBUM. And on top of all that is And All Will Be Desolation from Allfather which I have tagged below as beard metal – it’s in their catch phrase, look it up – but in reality this thing is a smorgasbord of sludge, death metal and beat down hardcore that is the best work this UK band has done to date, check out “Citadels” for proof – good god man.

I told you today was good. And you haven’t sent the rest yet, much more of this to come below. If you’re off, enjoy and happy Labor Day. If you’re working…well, that sucks and happy Labor Day anyway. See you here throughout the week. Continue reading
