Best of 2021: Ian’s List

Best of 2021

Alright, the moment you all (read: maybe three of you) have been waiting for, although with the lists that are already up, I feel like this is going to be underwhelming.  We’re really good at writing, people, and it’s been really awesome to not only be a part of the site but also be a fan at the same time.  So now, the top; the cream of the crop.  Say whatever you want about the year in general (except, you know, that the state of the world was overall pleasant), but as far as music goes, it was pretty sensational.  Maybe that’s because I got to spend another year in the fortunate position of being able to sit and write about music that I love so much.  In fact, that’s almost definitely it, so let me say how humbled and thankful I am to continue to be a part of this family.  Now, on to the goods:

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 187 (6.26.2021)

playlist - mixtape

Saturday. Finally. What a shit week. No matter though as we’re back with our mixtape of stuff we’ve been jamming this week and guaranteed there’s something here that’ll fit whatever you have going on today. We’ve got some newish Sanguisugabogg, fresh Thy Catafalque and tons of Suidakra, a demo track from Crypticus, a slappin’ death metal beast from Diabolizer, Kataan, Withered, and many more. Basically the perfect playlist to massacre some lawns with or light up an early party with, or just…whatever the hell you have on tap. Good times. Let them roll via the play button below.

Album Review: Suidakra — “Wolfbite”

I am very proud to say that in my time at Nine Circles Inc. I have been able to review a lot of albums from big name bands; stuff that is eagerly anticipated by many and sure to be a home run.  For that I am incredibly fortunate, so you should know that I mean it when I say that I have never slapped my name on a promo faster and with more force than when I saw Wolfbite show up on our list.  Suidakra is a name that will always elicit an enormous grin on my face, especially when there’s new music to be had.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 181 (5.15.2021)

playlist - mixtape

The work week is over, for some of us, and for some of you. But, we all still need a playlist…er, mixtape of stuff that lends well with beers, work, cutting grass, or doing whatever you’re doing. Enter Volume 181 of our “around the water cooler in the back office tracks” we’ve been loving this week to save the day. We’ve got some bowel moving Fluids, and other amazing death metal in the form of Morbific and Killing Addiction, and of course, some The Mountain Goats from brother Vince. We’ve also got Suidakra, Kardashev, Ophidian I, Gojira, and a ton of other tracks to make today better. Point your cursor to that play button below and crack a cold one, you’ve earned it.

Guys. GUYS. We’ve got less than a week ’til MDF. If I sound like a broken record right now…fuck you, I don’t particularly care. I’m JACKED for this thing.

But until then, we’ve got quite a bit of new metal to hold us over. Like, oh, I don’t know…new Katatonia, for starters? The Swedes are back with album number ten, The Fall of Hearts, which you can bet your asses Mr. Butterworth and I are psyched for. (Check out his review after the jump if you don’t believe me.) We’ve also got a new EP from OSDM worshippers Gruesome — who, oh yeah, will also be all about that MDF life next week. Tons more in the queue, so let’s not waste any more time. Here’s what’s on tap for this week:
