Mediocrity. The mother of all fails. We’ve all been guilty of it at some point; we get busy and things either fall by the wayside or we do just enough to tick off whatever task is in question. Make it a point to not be mediocre. Kick today, and life, right in the ass and own it. And keeping with that topic, there’s nothing mediocre about this week’s new metal as we’ve got new stuff from enthralling black metallers Necronautical, a major upgrade to the atmospheric post-black metal tag from Hope Drone, Wizard Rifle offers up unclassifiable but grade-A avantgarde metal wizardry, and Witch Vomit mine the cavernous depths of death metal extremely well.
I may have been behind in my playlist duties last week but I’m coming back with a vengeance today. Thanks to Josh, as ever, for having my back when life causes things to slip through the cracks. As usual, today brings another opportunity for us here at 9C to grace your ears with our sublime and spotless taste in songs. This week, my own playlist picks run the gamut from folk to classic Coheed and Cambria to death metal, we’ve got new jams from Coffins and Blanck Mass, and Chris throws some Joe Satriani in there for good measure. Drop out of life with coffee in hand and get your weekend started right.

As I’ve probably mentioned here before, I love EP’s and demos almost as much as I love full albums. There’s something about the condensed goodness, coupled with my ever dwindling attention span, that makes me wish these little gems got their own recognition sometimes when it comes to year-end lists. You have to be the change you want to see in the world though, right? So here it is then: my list of favorite shorter releases from this year. Continue reading →
Not sure how many of you were/are privy to Witch Vomit‘s 2016 debut full length A Scream From the Tomb Below but it was, and is, old school worship with an aggressive and foul soul that rules. Fast forward a year and they’ve returned with the Poisoned Blood MLP on none other than 20 Buck Spin. We touched on the whole “bringing the classics back to life in style” with Skelethal last week and Aposento a couple weeks back yet, here we are with another album full of grin inducing death metal that goes straight for the jugular.
