CANTO: Black Label Society, Wes Scantlin, and More
1/10/2018. I got nothing today.
- Zakk Wylde is suffering from some form of serious illness. As a result, Black Label Society has been forced to cancel a few shows. Major bummer. Here’s hoping he makes a speedy recovery.
- More sad news today. Babymetal guitarist Mikio “Ko-Gami” Fujioka has passed away at 36. He died on January 5th after sustaining injuries from a fall from an observation tower about a week prior.
- Puddle Of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin has officially checked into rehab. It has been one hell of a stretch for the dude, so here’s hoping this kickstarts a positive trend in his life. Seems like he’s doing well so far, so that’s good news.
- To lighten things up just a bit, Kittie will be releasing a documentary called Origins/Evolutions in March. It’s part of their 20th anniversary or something. Kittie fans, have at it…

CANTO: Zakk Wylde, Mammoth Grinder, Studio Announcements, and More
1/4/2018. It did, in fact, snow. Still is!
- A couple studio announcements to kick things off on this miserable Thursday: Clutch (yay) and Protest the Hero (less-yay).
- Not sure if you’ve read the Nielsen Music Year-End Report, but one of the themes is rock’s overall decline. Silver lining? Metallica and Linkin Park had strong showings.
- I have seen Zakk Wylde perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” a couple of time over the years, specifically at Ozzfest. Changing gears a bit from that, here he is performing it at a Chicago Bulls game. Because why the hell not?
- Mammoth Grinder have dropped a new video for “Servant of the Most High” from their upcoming Cosmic Crypt. They have some tour dates on the horizon, so be sure to catch the one in your area.

CANTO: Studio updates from Dark Tranquillity, new tracks from Inquisition and Whitechapel
“The human confrontation, I’ve build a phobia. It takes my essence somewhere, somewhere to take control.”
- We haven’t talked Dark Trangquillity in a little while, so let’s start there. The Swedes are back in the studio. Which is good news. Because 2013’s Construct didn’t suck. And that was also three years ago.
- Whitechapel have released a new track called “The Void”… Ok then, moving on to more important matters.
- This is stupid, but I still want to share it. Zakk Wylde now has his own emoji set. They are in an app store or something and probably not free.
- You know who also released a new track? Inquisition. It’s called “Wings of Anu” and… it’s fine I guess.
- I’m just gonna go ahead and use this opportunity to share some pro-shot Motorhead footage.

CANTO: Hells Headbash lineup, Zakk Wylde tour, more Ozzy drama
“Hark, men of faith, when you set fire to the fields, the grass grew stronger. Listen, men of law, when you turned from life, the flames endured.”
- Hells Headbash has announced their final running order. Highlights include Goat Semen, Incantation, and Acid Witch, among many, many others.
- This was a rumor until RIGHT NOW. Or, a few hours ago. Either way, Sharon has confirmed her split with Ozzy Osbourne and has apparently already moved out of the house.
- Canto wouldn’t be Canto without a tour. Zakk Wylde will be touring North America July through early September. He’s not a terrible human, this could be a good show.
- Kvelertak are streaming their new album, Nattesferd, in full. Which, ya know, is good news for Kvelertak fans and stuff.
- And to round things off with a video, here’s a new one from Novembre called “Annoluce.”
