The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 241 (7.23.2022)

While Chris is out slaying dragons and ripping some epic guitar solos from a mountaintop somewhere, you got me for this, the 241st edition of The Nine Circles Playlist. For real though, the man is on vacation and technically could be doing all that. However, I can tell you with certainty that we’ve got another loaded mixtape this week as Ian pays tribute to Mariusz Lewandowski with all his selections revolving around albums that share the late artist’s master touch such as cuts from Abigail Williams and Xenobiotic, Anton brings some heat with the newest Conan, Jon picks the insane new Ken Mode, Vincent drops one from Acephalix, Angela includes Wailin Storms (check out her review), Chris goes down an insanely good 80s thrash rabbit hole with choice cuts from Toxik, Coroner, and others, and I drop a live session from Burst, the new BANGER from Megadeth, and a new one from Karl Sanders. But, that’s only naming a few as we’ve got way more in store right behind that play button below. So, play it loud and piss off the neighbors.

Concert Review: Devastation on the Nation, 5.6.2022

And just like that, my second (metal) show since the start of The End Times is in the books! This time around, I had the privilege of the covering the Manchester, NH date of the absolutely stacked 2022 edition of Devastation on the Nation. Rotting Christ headlined a massive six band bill, featuring the likes of Borknagar, Abigail Williams, Ghost Bath, Vale of Pnath, and Stormruler. It was a long, hot, exhausting night, but one in which each performance was memorable and well-worth the investment in time. I’ll do my best to highlight the experience without taking up too much of anyone’s time. Here we go…

CANTO: Der Weg einer Freiheit, Converge, Swallow the Sun, and More

Today has been a suboptimal day for my allergies.

  • If it wasn’t already obvious, I’m really excited about the new Der Weg einer Freiheit album. So we’ll start with this immersive VR video for “Monument”. Noktvrn is set for a November 19th release through Season of Mist.
  • And then we’ll hop over to Converge, who have announced a new collaborative album, Bloodmoon: 1. That project will feature the likes of Chelsea Wolfe, Ben Chisholm, and Stephen Brodsky, which is awesome. That’s also a November 19th release, through Epitaph Records. Check out the lead track, “Blood Moon”, right here.
  • Swallow the Sun have announced a U.S. tour scheduled for this coming November and December. Support will be in the form of Abigail Williams and Wilderun, but unfortunately there are no dates near me. That said, this is an awesome bill and you should all go.
  • Extinction A.D. have signed on with Unique Leader, and have announced a new EP titled Chaos, Collusion, Carnage & Propaganda. That will be out on November 5th, and you can stream “Chaos” immediately below.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 112 (1.18.2020)

playlist - mixtape

We’re back on a regular format today.  No more eulogies from me, thankfully.  Instead, we’ve just got our weekly assortment of whatever great tunes we’ve been jamming.  This week, I throw in some new Cult of Luna, which I enjoyed a lot more than its one hour and twenty minute run time would have had me believe I could, Anton throws in the new single from Sutrah which he’s been gushing about to anyone with ears around these parts, and we have a few picks from a site newcomer who you may or may not be hearing more from very soon…

Until then, enjoy.
