I’m revisiting my initial post for what I was looking forward to from 2017 to see if those picks stood the test of time and if they were all I had hoped for. I don’t plan on going into too much detail as some of these may or may not be included in the impending EOY festivities. This year was definitely not the year we figured it all out and in fact it created more questions than any year I can remember. I do think 2017 was at least as good as 2016 on the metal front and in some cases was better, everyone will feel differently here but that’s my two cents. Metal was indeed my safe place to get away from all the bad this year held and I ran to it often. Without further ado, let’s see how these fared… Continue reading →
Let’s forget about the frustration that was the lead-up-to / early-departure-from Autopsy and pretend instead that Friday simply went out with a bang. (With Vader, duh.) We were a full day and change into a festival that — judging by the nuanced reactions of THE INTERNET — was supposed to be a total disaster, and yet things were…not just going off as planned, but also actively thriving? Well, spoiler alert, Day 3 at MDF would only prove to be a continuation of that. Let’s get into it. Continue reading →
Good morning, it’s time to metal. Here’s some news you might have missed from yesterday:
Leading off, Agoraphobic Nosebleed will be replacingWormrot at this year’s Maryland Deathfest. As one of the maybe five jackasses to have missed them last time out, I’m quite pumped about this. Noothgrush have been tapped to replace English Dogs, who also had to pull out of their appearance.
Is 2017 going to be the year we figure it all out? Probably not but who knows. Is it going to be the year that beats 2016 on the metal front? We won’t know for awhile but I’m very optimistic. Our world as we know it is full of uncertainty and precisely what will happen in the coming days, much less the coming year, can be overwhelming and alarming to think about. But as long as the metal stays, at least, as good as we had it last year we will have a place to hide away for that fleeting moment of bliss. I’ve got many things I’m looking forward to this year but the following list represents those that occupy the highest anticipation level for me at the moment. So, endure one more list and we will see you back here at the end of the year to see if these reigned supreme. Continue reading →
So, yaeh…where the hell did the first three months of the year go? It’s April already? Really? Time flies when you’ve got a lot of good music to get through, and man, did we ever have that in Q1. All the death metal, and black metal, and death metal, and sludge, and death metal. Seriously, it was a good three months for death metal, y’all.
Corey and I already got started on our lists earlier this week in Episode 37 of the podcast, but now it’s time for my full breakdown. Same deal as usual from me — a Top Five, followed by five honorable mentions — so let’s dig in. Here’s my best of Q1 list: Continue reading →
