The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 262 (12.17.2022)

December is largely a reflective time for me. And one of the things Iw as reflecting on this was how massive an influence the great Angelo Badalamenti was for popular music. His scores, particularly his collaborations with David Lynch was a huge impact on a ton of heavy music, whether you (or the bands themselves) realize it or not. So we’re kicking this edition of the Nine Circles Playlist with one of his most memorable themes. Is it also a meme? Sure, but if anything those memes show just how adept Badalamenti was at evoking an entire mood with just a few notes.

Elsewhere we have the latest video from Megadeth, and Rocky and the Sweden covering…Cheech and Chong? The rest of the staff kicks in the usual great tracks, including new music from Sanguisugabogg and Insomnium, a monster of a new Enslaved track, a live cut from The Armed as well as fresh music from A Pregnant Light, Tithe and Ashen. We have classic tracks from Baroness and Mogwai. There’s a Christmas track from Majestica, and some moody music courtesy of Bauhaus, Dashboard Confessional, and an epic closer from Jane’s Addiction.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 251 (10.1.2022)

Second booster. Feel like shit (déjà vu?)…I’m not complaining, just stating the current state of my body at the moment. So let’s get to it for the 251st edition of the Nine Circles Playlist.

Kicking it off with a few recent discoveries for yours truly with new releases from Phobophilic and Toadeater (thanks BANGERTV) as well as a classic from Life of Agony. Then we have a blessing in the form of new freakin’ music from -(16)- as well as cuts from Gaerea, Yandere Chainsaw Regurgitation Factory, Frayle, City of Caterpillar (thanks Vince because I am loving this), and Panopticon, as well as music from Chat Pile, Wailin’ Storms, Foscar covering Alice in Chains, Devenial Verdict, and a host of classics from the likes of Yob, Cathedral, Baroness, and more.

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

CANTO: Lamb of God, Boris, Hexed, and More

A few days of calm, before I’m back on the road this coming Thursday.

  • By far the biggest news of the day emerged from the Lamb of God camp. First off, their next album, Omens, is set to arrive on October 7th through Epic Records. Keep an eye out for “Nevermore” this coming Friday. And then from there, they also announced a massive headlining tour in September and October with the likes of Killswitch Engage, Baroness, Fit For An Autopsy and more (depending on the date).
  • Not really sure where to go from there to be honest. Oh, new stuff from Boris! “Question 1” has been unveiled, a track that will appear on Heavy Rocks. That album is set for an August 12th release through Relapse.
  • From there, we also have new material from Hexed. The first single from Pagans Rising, titled “Repentance”, is available for your listening pleasure now. That album is set for a release later this year through ViciSolum Productions. That date is still TBD as far as I am aware.
  • And we’ll close out our Monday with some doom. This is Monasterium, with their new track titled “Cimmeria”. Cold Are The Graves is out this coming Friday through Nine Records.

CANTO: Baroness, Immortal Bird, Archspire, and More

Lantlos - Wildhund

After skipping yesterday, I’ll do my best to catch up today. No I won’t.

  • I should at least include the new Baroness tour announcement, which will be a by-request tour throughout the United States. You can vote for your 10 favorite songs (out of a list of 80) with the purchase of a ticket. They go on sale Friday at this location. Well, not that exact location, but you know what I mean.
  • Immortal Bird has a brief run of shows coming up with Witching in parts of the right coast in late November and early December. If you happen to be in one of the five cities they hit on they trip, you need to make this happen.
  • Mortiferum has a new album dropping on November 5th through Profound Lore, titled Preserved In Torment, and today they unveiled a new track from that record. Give “Exhumed From Mortal Spheres” a listen.
  • And then we’ll wrap up the day (and maybe week) with a couple new videos. First we have Archspire, who shared a new video for “Drone Corpse Aviator”. That, of course, is taken from Bleed the Future, which is out on October 29th through Season of Mist.
  • We’ll close with Lantlos. The clip below is for “LOWBREATHHIFEELLOWLIFEHIHOPES”, which I definitely just copied and pasted. It’s from the limited edition of Wildhund, which is available through Prophecy Productions.
