Most of us are eager to dart into 2020 and leave 2019 in our wakes. While I’m ready for a fresh start and a new year, I want to linger in 2019 a little longer to savor the musical releases. Many wonderful albums were released this year which made narrowing down and ranking my top picks a challenge. The albums that ended up on this list are albums that resonated with me—albums that I kept revisiting, I kept blasting through headphones, and kept giving me goosebumps.
I decided to pick 9 albums in honor of Nine Circles and this wonderful community that welcomed me in this year. Let’s dive in! Continue reading
Episode 25! How the hell did we make 25 of these?! It boggles the mind, but not as much as the production choices on Gold & Grey, the latest from Savannah’s rocking sludge merchants Baroness and not coincidentally our Album of the Month selection for June 2019! Continue reading
So, another Saturday is upon us and what are you doing with it? Outside maybe? Well, obviously not if you’re reading this and thank you, by the way, for that. Once you get done reading, take this playlist of tunes with you and get the heck outside. Or do something. I’m sure there’s a show playing local to you or a pool to get into or a creek to cool off in. You get the point, just do something but play this loud as hell whatever you’re doing. Yesterday was one hell of a release day and we’ve got a little of that here plus a whole lot more. You know the drill, hit the play button and let the rough side drag. That’s what the weekend is for.
Welcome back to Cursed Imagery! If you missed our debut post last week, this series focuses on poking fun at metal album artwork on a maybe-weekly, long-term-more-likely-monthly basis. If you missed our post last week, you also missed me crying “plagiarism!” over the artwork for a particular single, without realizing that said single was a cover from the artist I’d thought had been plagiarized. Good ol’ me — eh, guys?
Welp, onward and upward — and hopefully minus the need for any mea culpas this time! Our highlights from today’s crop of new releases are after the jump!
It’s hot out. I don’t feel like going for a run. But I must.
- Sabaton have released the first album trailer for The Great War, which drops on July 19th via Nuclear Blast. Check it out here.
- Archspire have shared a bass play-thru for “Remote Tumor Seeker”, a track featured on 2017’s Relentless Mutation. If you play bass, and I guess even if you don’t, check it out.
- Betraying The Martyrs, deathcore crew out of France, are headed to North America for a run of dates in June and July. They’ll be traveling around with Entheos, Within Destruction, Sentinels, and Defying Decay.
- Baroness is doing an in-store thing in Boston at the end of the weekend, and I really want to go to it. This is why.
