New Blogger Alert – Welcome Ritual Grim!

We’ve got another addition to the Nine Circles family! We’re pleased to introduce our newest contributor: Ritual Grim! Here’s a bit more about Satan’s favorite disciple in his own words:

Thanks for the kind words, Daniel. You truly are a servant of our dark underlord. And thanks to the staff at Nine Circles for being so welcoming. It’s truly an honor to join such an illustrious team of mortals. Although I will live on long after you are all dead, it will be nice knowing you for the brief time you are on this earth.

Throughout my life, I have brought nothing but desecration, death, disease and suffering to you mortal peoples and, through my posts here at Nine Circles, I hope to “pay it forward,” as you say. I hope to be able to give you a lens through which you can see what it’s like to be a Dæmon in service of our Lord Satan. As you will find out, I not only enjoy torture, death and maiming, I also have a lighter side. I enjoy music, photography and complete and utter loneliness. Looking forward to sharing more on a weekly basis!

Natually, Grim’s going to be taking over our regular “Wake Up and Smell the Satan” series every Friday. On occasion, he may also share his thoughts on some of the more Satanic albums that cross our radar screen. In the meantime, make sure to check out his Tumblr blog and follow him on Twitter. Welcome aboard, Grim!

New Blogger Alert–Welcome Josh and Jesse!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day, all! How’s everyone getting down today—beer? Jameson? Both?

Well, we here at Horns Up are celebrating today with two more additions to our team! For those keeping score at home, that brings us up to six team members—otherwise known as the point at which politicians start citing our blogging family as grounds for either welfare or abstinence-only sex education, depending on your side. Either way, exciting stuff!

So without any further ado, we’re pleased to introduce our newest contributors: Josh Stewart and Jesse Dolman! Here’s a bit more about both of these dapper gents in their own words:

“I’m Joy and I’m from Chicago. I was raised on a steady diet of Metallica and Sabbath, and have been getting more interested in metal—especially of the underground and experimental varieties—for the past few years. I have a lot of love for Inter Arma (the best live band out there right now), Thou (I could listen to their covers all day), and weirder stuff like Panopticon and Botanist. I also DJ at a local radio station called CHIRP on Tuesday nights from 8-10 pm, central time.

If Panopticon is weird, we really don’t wanna be normal. Anyway, keep an eye out for Joy’s first post—a review of The Body / Thou’s You, Whom I Have Always Hated—later today! In the meantime, give her a follow on Twitter (@joylkmus) and check out her blog, Shade of Living Light for more written work. Welcome aboard, Joy!

New Blogger Alert–Welcome Manny O War!

That’s right—it’s not just Corey and Dan anymore! We’re thrilled to introduce the newest member of the Horns Up team: Manny O War! Here’s a bit more about Manny, straight from the man himself!

Manny O War (r) and friend keeping it gr1m and fr0stb1tt3n back in the day.

“The year was 1981 when Manny-O-War thrust forth into this cruel world in Ledyard, CT.  At an early age he showed an interest in absconding from social life by escaping into music, playing piano, guitar, drums, saxophone, trumpet, bass guitar, harmonica and other instruments commonly found in rural, antiquated America. Upon entering undergraduate school, he found that his only place of solace was a small radio station, WCNI 90.9 FM, Ground Zero Radio. For seven years he held positions on the board of directors, including Music Director, Program Director and on air personality—a.k.a “disc jockey.” Around this time he also started booking shows and assisting in hosting music festivals of epic and hellish proportions. After obtaining a law degree and moving to Brooklyn, NY, he gravely missed being involved in music. Thus, in his early 30’s he began writing about music for personal benefit and the pleasure of his friends.

Here’s what Manny-O-War was listening to in 2014 by way of a Top 20:

  1. Behemoth The Satanist
  2. Dead CongregationPromulgation of the fall
  3. WinterfyllethThe Divination of Antiquity
  4. Obsidian TongueA Nest of Ravens in the Throat of Time
