I’ve been floored by the staggering amount of releases coming at us each week. Maybe it was this way last year and my memory sucks but it seems there’s no let up in the climbing quantity of new metal. No complaints from me at all though, the more the merrier I say. Long story short, if you haven’t found at least a handful of albums to latch onto, you’re not looking hard enough. Anyway, we had a good week around the Nine Circles table and collectively we listened to a ton of music which we are sharing with you below. As I hit the “Publish” button on this post, it’s a little less than three weeks since Maryland Deathfest wrapped up its 15th edition down in Baltimore. I’d like to tell you that the delay’s been down to me “just processing it all” or “trying to find the right words” or some shit, but let’s be real, I’ve just been busy with other things. However, the timing of my posts should not be construed as a lack of enthusiasm for this year’s fest. In fact, I’ve been quite jazzed about my experience in the time since it all wrapped up. Somehow, it’s June already. Where the hell’s this year gone? Honestly, I’m all for this; the sooner 2016’s over and done with, the better, in my book.
But anyway, interesting week this week. We’ve got a couple of big-ish name releases — an EP from Candlemass, albums from Dark Funeral and Cough, etc. — but then we’ve also got some others from some absolutely HILARIOUSLY named bands. Like? Oh, I don’t know…a new demo from a band called Anal Depression, (yes) one from Clitorodectomía, (also, yes) you name it. Apparently you can never run out of try-too-hardiness in metal.
