When it comes to a Deafheaven show, there a few things you can be absolutely sure of. For one, they are going to bring a dope — if not curious — collection of artists on the road with them. Secondly, their performance will exhaust all your energy, regardless of your positioning in the crowd. And finally, the passion and quality of their performance will never, ever, leave you disappointed. Such was the case at the Boston date of this most recent tour with Drab Majesty and Uniform. In fact, out of all the Deafheaven shows I’ve taken in, this one very well may have been the most impressive. Continue reading →
Before you start reading look up. See that image up there? When I see a cassette I think of mixtapes and maaaaan, I used to love making those. But even better was receiving them through snail mail from other folks with like minded music interests. Cassettes have made a comeback but in this digital age, those tape trading days are sadly behind us. Playlists have essentially taken their place and as of today Nine Circles has brought you fifty of them. To celebrate this 50th volume, we figured we’d spruce it up a bit. Hope you dig it, I know I do. Anyway, we’ve got another great bunch of tunes to share that left a mark over the past few days, dig in below. And HEY, share your own picks in the comments section or share some that might have made it onto your personal mixtape back in the day.
Four out of five on the Canto posts. Oh well, I guess Corey’s eating a shoe. Anyway, here’s some news to close out your week:
Leading off, it’s new-release Friday! A whole bunch of great bands dropped new stuff today, including ImperialTriumphant, Deafheaven, Obscura and more. Check out Josh’s full list in this week’s Initial Descent post here.
Providence, RI vets Daughters released “Satan in the Wait,” their first song in more than eight years. The band also announced they’d signed with Ipecac Recordings, with plans to release an album sometime later this year.
Here we are, again, with Initial Descent and why so soon you ask? Well, Initial means “existing or occurring at the beginning” and since we don’t have too many Sunday posts today is the beginning. Hence, “Initial Descent” and Saturday just ain’t it anymore. Feel strongly one way or the other? PLEASE, leave it in the comments and tell us how you feel and what you like or dislike.
Moving along, this week we have NY’s extreme avant-garde black / death metallers Imperial Triumphant triumphantly return (yep, I did that) with their third full length Vile Luxury, Churchburn are back with their doom laden second full length None Shall Live…The Hymns of Misery, Seattle’s duo Pound offer up their debut Pound which will make heads spin from the dazzling display of technical virtuosity and Deafheaven come gazing back to explode the internet on Ordinary Corrupt Human Love. 1..2..3.. has it started yet? No worries, it will.
Again, let us know if you dig the new Monday edition but whether you do or don’t, hang around and check out all the other killer stuff that’s out this week. Also, the playlist will return on Saturday so stay tuned for that and we’ll be seeing you here throughout the week. Continue reading →
