All Pigs Must Die

Last one of these before Halloween. So, who are you parading around town as? I’m going as myself, straight from work. Should be fun. Get your horror movies on this weekend people, seriously. I tip my hat to all of you that I see on social media getting it done — handful of nights left to go, DO NOT let us down. Anyway, lots of metal here on Initial Descent this week: All Pigs Must Die place a nasty drillbit made of hardcore squarely in the temple on Hostage AnimalBlut Aus Nord slice the rib cage wide open with a machete of black metal on Deus Salutis MeaeDeathCrawl peels the skin back painfully slow with sludgy fingertips on Acceptable Level of Misery and Mendacium severs limbs then uses them to beat the blackened dead to a pulp on Decimating Titans. Sounds fun right? Of course it does. But that’s not all, we have much more fun lying in wait. Head inside and see for yourself — you never know what might be lurking around the corner… Continue reading

High Spirits
High Spirits
Welcome to another Initial Descent and yet another stacked batch of releases. Hopefully you spent yesterday getting a head start because there’s enough on tap here to keep most anyone busy. We all could use some happiness so do yourself, and those around you, a favor and check out High Spirit‘s latest full length Motivator. On the opposite spectrum, if you just recovered from Subrosa’s latest dive into Light Falls from Wrekmeister Harmonies and keep that heavy yet somber feeling alive. Blister your eardrums with Cara Neir and Wildspeaker‘s latest Split on Broken Limbs Recordings, who actually have several out this week that warrant your time. Sumerlands debut Sumerlands deeply satisfies the traditional heavy metal craving and Mare Cognitum returns with their hypnotizing take on atmospheric black metal with Luminiferous Aether. All that and much more so click that “continue reading” link. Continue reading

Initial Descent: May 27, 2016

withered band

It’s finally here! We’re down at MDF — which should explain the relatively quiet last couple of days (don’t worry, podcast minisodes are coming soon!) —and amazingly, the entire metal world doesn’t stop for this shit. Who knew?

So, yes, we do have some new metal for ya this week. Right off the bat, Atlanta black / death / crust crew Withered return with Grief Relic, their first album in six years. Beyond that, there’s some new stuff from Death Angel and Behexen that’ll definitely be worth a listen, and also a new covers album from Six Feet Under that’ll definitely not be worth a listen. There’s a bunch more to get to, so let’s not waste any more time — here’s what’s on tap for this week:

Wake Up and Smell the Satan! – May 20, 2016

wake-up-and-smell-satan

Another miserable Friday dawns upon this solid rock of waste and human excrement. You continue to murder and slay each other over silly ideas. Still unaware that there is more to the world than your own pathetic opinions and misgivings. Your fear drives you into unwanted places. Deep into caverns you have made in the earth. But nothing can protect you. You will die. You will decompose. And you will be eaten by the earth that you have treated like a landfill. So what do you have to look forward to? Continue reading
