By the time this posts, I will be fully submitted to my favorite brewery. It truly is the holiday season.

Vader have announced the Revelation Of The Wicked – North American 2023 tour, which will feature Krisiun and Decrepit Birth. Those dates fall next March and April, starting in Mesa, Arizona, and wrapping up in San Diego. As usual, tickets go on sale this coming Friday.
Slovakian black metallers Spectral Corruption are streaming their second album, Requiem, in full over at the No Gleaming Light YouTube channel. That one is officially out today through Signal Rex.
Italian death metal crew Sepolcral have signed on with Time To Kill Records. With that news, we also have a bit of an album update. Their new album, Scourge, is going through some finishing touches, and should be out next year.
Let’s close out with the performance video for “Caravans to the Outer Worlds” that emerged from Enslaved today. That’s footage from The Otherworldly Big Band Experience from one year ago today. As a reminder, their new album Heimdal is out on March 3 through Nuclear Blast.

Another moment in time and another terrible loss with the tragic death of Chester Bennington (Linkin Park)…and another reason that if you know someone who is struggling reach out, without judgement, and do something…anything, you can to help. Our thoughts go out to family, friends, bandmates and everyone else affected by this.

This week here on Initial Descent we have much to explore but kicking things off is the black metal meets poetic beauty of To the Elements from Sun Of the Sleepless. Concert Review: Maryland Deathfest XV, Part One

For the fifth year in a row, I found myself down in Baltimore over Memorial Day weekend for Maryland Deathfest. Although this year, things were a little different. For one, there was no outside stage — an omission that, I hoped, wouldn’t prove to be a death knell for “America’s Biggest Metal Party®.” For another, my two longtime MDF-attending colleagues — our co-host emeritus and Literati Overlord — decided not to partake in this year’s festivities.

Still, with a compelling enough lineup and plenty of other metal comrades flying in for the weekend, I decided to take the plunge again. And, lucky you, you get to hear all about it! (SPOILER ALERT: Reports of Maryland Deathfest’s, erm… death… were greatly exaggerated.)

I was going to try to write up these recaps as I go, but the reality is, that was never going to be possible. (You know, because of concerting and catching-up-with and other shenanigans. And maybe sleep, too.) Oh well, with all that said, here goes…
