Best of 2021: Zyklonius’s List

Best of 2021

Huh, it appears that I blinked and a whole year went by just like that. Luckily there was metal, a lot of it in fact, to the extent that none of the albums on my list ended up on our staff’s combined list, which shows just how much diversity there is, in terms of releases, genres and our respective tastes and preferences. With majestic hails to the bands whose releases enriched my life in the past 12 months, the following contains my 20 favorite albums of the year. I hope you will find something that intrigues, excites and animates you.

Football is coming… to Rome.

  • Fractal Universe have announced “The Impossible Horizon – Alive” livestream event. That is, of course, in support of The Impossible Horizon, which just dropped via Metal Blade. The event is scheduled for July 25th, and they’ll be performing the album in its entirety. Tickets are available here.
  • Deafheaven premiered a new track, which we obviously need to include. This one is titled “The Gnashing”, and it’s further evidence that Infinite Granite is going to be some kind of incredible. That album drops on August 20th through Sargent House.
  • TesseracT have shared a performance video of “Nocturne” from P O R T A L S. The cinematic live experience will be released on August 27th through Kscope, and can be pre-ordered here.
  • That’s enough for today. I’m spent and have a crazy week ahead of me. So let’s close with some Italian melodic death metal… because of football going to Rome and stuff. Here’s the new video from Hell’s Guardian for “Sentenced”.

Wilderun - Veil of Imagination

Better day today. Because soccer is still on after I got home.

  • Let’s begin with the unveiling of the third single from Wilderun’s upcoming new album, Veil of Imagination. The song is called “O Resolution!” and you can follow this link to Consequence of Sound to check it out. Full reminder, that album drops on Friday (11/1).
  • In follow up to the news from Dave Mustaine yesterday, it was also announced that he is going to be selling a ton of gear. If you’re a Megadeth fan, and want to add an absolutely killer piece of gear to your collection, this might be your chance.
  • A couple things out of the Nuclear Blast camp. The first comes by way of Obscura, who have signed on with the label and have announced a 2020 headlining tour in Europe with support from God Dethroned, Thulcandra, and Fractal Universe.
  • Children of Bodom dropped a new animated music video for “Hexed”, the title-track from their most recent album, out now via Nuclear Blast. Check out the video below.
