It’s been a hot minute since this site dove into the hallowed halls of power metal. Sure, there was that Rhapsody of Fire review a few months ago, and if you’ve been listening to our monthly Album of the Month podcast we can’t stop talking about how great the latest Gloryhammer is (seriously, it’s great…so much so that we’re not even including it in this post but giving it the header. Run, don’t walk to check out Legends From Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex), but this year’s been a bit of a slog regarding content, let alone content for that most triumphant of genres. So let’s rectify that with this edition of Nine Circles ov…and talk about some of the great power metal in 2019. Continue reading
Did you listen to the June Album of the Month podcast episode? Did you do the homework? Did you think we would leave you hanging? Fear not, for below you will find a quick list (with links to boot!) of all the albums mentioned by the Nine Circles crew as early 2019 favorites. Dive in, take a listen, and let us know what else is killing you so far this year.
*Note: Abbath isn’t actually in this list. That is an oversight, because I’ve been loving Outstrider. But any chance to post a picture of Abbath can’t be passed up, so… Continue reading
Maniacs, demons, and real rockers rejoice: another Saturday is upon us. Time to wake up, get fueled up, and dig into our Saturday playlist. If this is the first time you’re here, we put together a list of all the music we’ve been listening to throughout the week to give you a peek behind the curtain into the inner workings of the minds of the people who write for Nine Circles. New, old, heavy, softer, it’s all in there as long as it’s good. Take a gander at the link below and maybe you’ll find something new to soundtrack your weekend with.
Do you still get that rush when you find a new band that just does it for you? Or how about a new album from an old favorite that does the same? Each week these lists offer chances to experience that and this one is no different so let’s get the ball rollin’.
Darkthrone chose to let the fans hear new album Old Star, in its entirety, before anyone so Friday is the day to hear what will surely be the next chapter of black n’ punk that we’ve come to expect, love, and crank as loud as possible. Italian death metallers Fulci return with their second full length Tropical Sun, which is based around the movie Zombi 2, and it’s freaking great and nasty and vile but most of all it’s just wicked good death metal – family fun in the tropical sun. Speaking of wicked good death metal, Nekroí Theoí gets all up in the brutal side of the genre on debut Dead Gods but expect many surprises well beyond just sheer brutality – that’s all I’m giving up, go check it out. And rounding out the top slots this week is Gloryhammer with Legends From Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex which continues their forward march of damn near single handedly taking power metal to a whole new level.
There you have it but way more awaits immediately below so go find that rush. Continue reading
