CANTO: Soen, Sanguisugabogg, Sylvaine, and More

Soen

Word on the street is that it’s going to snow overnight. That’s wild.

  • Leading off, we have a new performance video from Soen for “Fortune”. That’s the latest material taken from Atlantis, their new concert film, which drops this coming Friday through Silver Lining Music. That track, of course, is originally taken from 2021’s Imperial.
  • Next we have Sanguisugabogg, who have set February 3 as the release date for Homicidal Ecstasy. That album will be out through Century Media, and a video for “Pissed” is available here.
  • Spiritbox have announced “The Eternal Blue Tour 2023”, set to run in April and May. Support will be in the form of After The Burial and Intervals, and tickets for those dates go on sale this coming Friday at this location.
  • And closing out, we have the new music video from Sylvaine for “Everything Must Come To An End”. That track is taken from her latest, Nova, which dropped earlier this year through Season of Mist.

The Nine Circles Playlist Vol. 253 (10.15.2022)

For the last five days I’ve been trapped, sequestered in this tiny 9’X12′ space not because I’m sick, but because I’m the only one not sick. After more than two and half years my entire family have fallen ill to the COVID, and I attribute my still (reasonably) healthy body to the massive amounts of metal sliding into my brain pan. May this, the 253rd edition of the Nine Circles Playlist, keep you free from illness as well.1

We’re kicking things off with some Rhythm of Fear, whose brand of thrash has my old man bones quaking with nostalgic joy. From there we have a cut from the recent EP by Asarhaddon which hits that atmospheric black metal button I thought I had tucked away for a while now. Elsewhere the crew is pushing some great stuff, including new cuts from a slew of great bands, including Lamentations, Lost in Kiev, Exhumed, Distant, A Pregnant Light, Woods of Desolation, Envy, and frickin’ Blink-182, which is a big ol’ blast of fun. There’s even more surprises in store, but I don’t want to give away the whole store, you know?

Get listening. Stay safe. See you next week.

Chris

1 Listening to copious amounts of metal shouldn’t be the only thing used in the fight against disease. Use your brain, get vaccinated, and maybe wash those hands a little more often, ya filthy animals.

The Third Circle of Bandcamp: Year End 2019 Edition

third circle of Bandcamp header

Welcome back, friendo. This month we’re going to do it a little different, because December was slow AF, and we’re all in the spirit of year-end lists. So this time, I’m going to give you a selection of my absolute favorite tracks of the year. Things you might have missed, things *I* might have missed. Just good music all around. 2019 was a year for the books, fingers crossed 2020 delivers. We’ll see what January gives us.

Oh yeah. This one’s a double. What can I say? It was a great year. Oh, and it ain’t all metal. Sorry metal fam, sometimes you just gotta take your medicine. Clocking in at just over two hours, I hope this helps you adjust to the fact that we now live in the future.

playlist - mixtape

Good morning all.  Welcome to another Saturday mixtape session.  This week, your resident screamo buff loses his mind over both new envy and new Loma Prieta (!!!!!), our newest staff member throws in one of Yob’s finest cuts (and check out her review of the new Tribulation live album if you haven’t already), and Chris reminds me that I need to be listening to more Voivod always.  If you’re looking for something new to jam, there’s something for just about everyone here, so grab some headphones and a strong morning beverage and check out what we’ve been listening to down below.
