Big week for big releases. I must have listened to that Megadeth album five more times after writing up my maiden voyage with the album for the site. Now it’s been a steady diet of Blind Guardian, King Buffalo and the Motörhead tribute Whitespade from the guy behind Midnight. The heavy is strong this week, indeed.

But it’s not all about me. The team has some massive tracks to share as well, from bands like Goatwhore, Armed for Apocalypse, some true insanity from Fluids, as well as the latest from Devin Townsend, Wolfbrigade, Escarnium, Crippled Black Phoenix and Cloakroom. Throw in the latest single from All Them Witches, a classic track from Siouxsie and the Banshees as well as Pantera, Moonspell and Killswitch Engage and, well…you got yourself this week’s playlist.

I’m seeing tons more people getting into the whole 31 days of horror extravaganza this year and want to remind everyone to not miss the Blood Red series from Chris where he goes all in for Hooptober. This is the month where horror and metal collide in an evil symphony and needless to say, I’ll drink to that. Speaking of metal, there’s plenty of it this week so let’s get to it…

Swedish death metallers Vanhelgd offer up their fifth installment of insanely good death metal on Deimos Sanktuarium and yes, it is better than Temple of Phobos. NY’s King Buffalo may tag themselves as heavy blues but after spending much time with their second full length Longing To Be the Mountain I would add ‘explosion’ to that tag – it’s an explosion of ideas; a psychedelic cousin and a blues brother meet up to grab drinks with a rocker friend and a metal head uncle. Great second effort here. Vermithrax make their brand of thrash pulse with the soul of classic heavy metal on Imperium Draconus and Solium Fatalis return with a crunchy, melodic blast of death and black metal on Genetically Engineered To Enslave – the production on this thing is unbelievable which is good news for eardrums all around the world.

Morning, kiddos. It’s a pretty cool Friday, all things considered. For one, it’s my last day at my job. For another, I just had my brain annihilated by Carcass, Ghoul and Night Demon last night at the Gramercy Theatre. (Also, Crowbar played.) You might say I’m kinda jacked on this week, and you’d be right. Factor in some new metal on top of that? Game on. So what’ve we got this week?

Well, we start with Guidance, the new, sixth album from Chicago instrumental trio Russian Circles. Beyond that? All manner of things: Vukari, Necromancing the Stone (which my colleague Manny-O-War is super high on), Bloody Hammers (with whom my other colleague Tenebrous Kate had an awesome interview)…you name it. Beginning this week, we’re also expanding our “Other New Releases of Note” section to cover even more new releases. Want your band featured in an upcoming edition? Send us your info!
